If Mclaren won their case the FIA would have to admit they were wrong in the first place, if they lost the FIA would be seen to be bias. The A*seholes took the easy option of not having to make any decision.

Spot on. They took the cowardly back door. It's even worse this way than if the appeal had been admissable and the penalty not overturned. Gutless, spineless, corrupt, twisted. And everything else that pops up when you find those words in a Thesaurus.

Oh well I got up just to see the verdict and now going back to bed. Lets focus on the next GP at Singapore then shall we. This penalty case for Spa is now officially over. Thank God for that.:thumbup::yes:

Hey everyone, I'm new here and this is my first post, so go easy on me.

I'll say that I'm a Lewis Hamilton fan, I honestly don't know why. I guess it's just because his story of this come from nowhere rookie almost winning the F1 Championship got me re-interested in F1 again. I had watched F1 previously years ago first back during Michael Schumacher's ascension to the throne with Benetton and watched when my home country fan favorite Jacques Villeneuve moved over from CART to win the Championship, but then he moved to BAR and after a couple of seasons I lost interest again.

The things that bother me more than anything else about this whole Belgian Grand Prix are:

#1 The rules make it unappealable. Why? Why would you have any rule that isn't allowed to be appealed?

#2 He gave back the position. Isn't that what he was supposed to do? I'm no expert but from what I've heard he did what he was supposed to do. And I don't buy this whole "He gained an advantage" argument. Going in to the chicane he was right on Raikkonen's bumper, then side by side, then after he got the advantage he slowed up to let Raikkonen pass and was back on his bumper again. Where's the advantage there? And according to McClaren the officials told them twice that he was all good.

#3 Doesn't Raikkonen have complicity in this too for not giving him any room and running him off the road? He had nowhere to go, it was either cut the chicane or knock them both out of the race. I don't know all the rules, but seriously what else could he have done?

Anyway, the thing that bugs me the most is this can't be appealed, there's no need of that type of situation in a sport where such an appeal is clearly possible.

Well, Raikkonen had the line, so he was well-within his rights to take the approach he did. I didn't hear anyone complaining when Hamilton pushed both Massa and Piquet wide in Hockenheim. I hate to say it, but I get the impression that the only way to solve this once and for all (and take away any doubt as to whether or not any advantages were gained and/or returned fully) would be to make a lot more tracks like Montreal. Or, failing that, very deep gravel traps which they wouldn't be able to get out of should be put in all the chicanes and run-off areas as a deterrent. Downside is, it isn't as safe. :(

Putting gravel or rough grass in the areas where you could possibly cut or making the chicane kerbing a foot high would solve the problem.

I have a question: Why in the hell did the FIA force McLaren to have to travel half way around the world to tell them that the appeal was inadmissible? Why even bother to set and appeal date?

306 miles ≠ half-way around the world.

Probably to deter them from trying to appeal against something they can't appeal against in future.

Sorry I sholud have claified what I ment by half way around the world. I ment dragging them to Paris on monday when they have to be in Singapore by Wednesday.

They pulled the same one last year if you remember. lewis went to defend McLaren at that Mosley staged farce while everyone else was preparing for a race  (course he's not loyal or anything  )

Yes thank god for that! Ferrari can now relax into yet another FIA staged win, phew! I was getting woried when Domenicali took over , I thought Ferrari were going to stop cheating and win on the track :yellowyikes: But we're ok , its back to business as usual.

What a stinker! How pathetic that the FIA sets a date for an appeal, then declares that an appeal is inadmissable! That seems somewhat inconsistent. Who writes these rules??!!
Lewis won the race fair and square. Leaving aside the fact that he gave back the place, he did not gain any advantage over KR anyway because he crashed out!! It is a pity that Ferrari don't have an ounce of sportsmanship in them, otherwise they would refuse the victory - lol.
Well, such hypocrisy makes me want to puke. I reckon I'll be better off watching something else, something that has a fresher smell about it. If we all did that, the sponsors might want to remove the cheating b*stards from their positions of power.

Well, you see that's part of the problem. They aren't all written down. The FIA expect folk to have some kind of telepathic powers by which to communicate with, say, the stewards. And even the ones that are written down have so many grey areas that Scotland and Ireland seem like the Sahara.
