Now the question is: is this good or bad news.

To any Ferrari fan without a short memory this is good news!

but to any Ferrari fan with no tolerance for anything but winning every race and basing their opinions on current points position then this is probably bad news

The whole point of my post was that we don't know how this will pan out. If Kimi returns to form, good news. If Kimi continues his current (for him) second rate form, that's not good news. But don't let me get in the way of a good anti-Ferrari fan rant on your part.

I dont think Ferrari would resign him if there was any doubt to them about his speed in the future

Alonso is probably pissed. :D Kimi has had a poor year but all drivers have bad races it's just unfortunate for him that he has had more than others.

well this could give rise to Alonso signing a three year deal with BMW 09,10,11 and if no success there and Ferrari are still strong he may then go to Ferrari in 2012

Raikkonen seems to be a guy that drifts through life and people don't seem to mind. I was probably the only guy with ant affiliation to McLaren glad to see him leave the team. At the beginning of 2007, I started to get a little worried that he had decided to knuckle down, but since, borrow the odd blip for several weeks, he's been pretty average. McLaren and Ferrari both have the right to feel short-changed, so I'm surprised that Ron Dennis was so tolerant of him at McLaren (even including the fact McLaren were absolutely inept for most of the time Raikkonen was with the team). I'm surprised that Ferrari so freely offered him a deal. In fact, I'm surprised how understanding they have been with Raikkonen. We all know how good Raikkonen can be, so perhaps Dennis and Montezemolo are hoping and/or waiting for him to do it. To conclude, is it a good move by Ferrari? Well, it all depends on which Raikkonen shows up. For all his flaws, I like Raikkonen and believe he has the potential to bring something to the party, even if he doesn't always show it, so I'm glad to see that he will still be involved in Formula One. It would nice if he won the title this season so he could claim to be one of the greats who have won back-to-back titles, but I really don't feel he deserves it, which is a shame, for his ability certainly does.

It is possible that Raikkonen is the sort of person who will lose his motivation if he begins to "apply himself." There are those who can only do stuff up to the point it stays effortless for them; once it crosses the threshold and starts to become a chore, motivation drops. So the talent that you give him credit for (that is as it should be) may disappear if he begins to implement the things that you don't give him credit for. He speaks about this in one of his interviews (with that F1 magazine run by Red Bull racing).

On a different note, hello all.
