Here's an interesting one...

Take another look at the battle between Villeneuve and Arnoux at Dijon in 1979:

It's quite clear that at about 6:35 Arnoux leaves the track and stays ahead of Villeneuve partly as a result, i.e. he leaves the track and gains an advantage. There's also the issue of the wheel-banging, crowding going into various turns, and so on. What the hell would the modern stewards made of that little lot then? Both cars would probably have been excluded!

I'm intrigued by this one:

30.6 The organiser must make at least two fire extinguishers of 5kg capacity available to each competitor and ensure that they work properly.

Do they have to carry this in the cockpit with them?

Competitor generally refers to the team as the whole, so these would most likely be the fire extinguishers used in the pit lane. All the cars are fitted with a fire extinguisher behind the driver anyway.

Seriously? You didn't know there were rules against weaving and blocking? Every form of racing on this planet from F1, through sports cars, down to wheelchair racing has a problem with deliberate and intentional blocking. Racing is not meant to be bumper cars down at the local fairground and if you let blocking occur it will advance into bodywork warfare...and then the racing part of it goes away. Intentional blocking, weaving and stopping a clearly faster car and/or driver from making a legit pass is poor racing (not to mention dangerous) and that is why it is penalized in every form or real racing all the way down to amateur SCCA. I'm not saying anyone did that this race, I'm only responding to your having no idea these things are governed over. Yes, they are. Everywhere. Thank God.

With that said, the FIA does a pretty half bottom job of wording their rules and an even more half bottom job of enforcing them.

**edit** - I did not type "bottom"...LOL, but it's funny so I'm going to let the filter have it's way with me.

I said some of the rules, not that I 'didn't know there were rules against weaving and blocking'.
