Thing is, everyone had the deep water. Him being better in deep water counts for nothing in your argument. Otherwise, you could say that Bolt was helped by the fact that he was only running 100 and 200 metre races, rather than 400 metre races.

Did Mark Spitz have the deep water in Munich? Did Ian Thorpe have the deep water in Sydney? It was the 2008 Beijing Olympics only. Like I said it's not about his competitor's because I wouldn't have brought the deep water and swimsuit up.

Just admit Phelps is the star of the games.

It's easy for you to say that because you're American. So you'll have a bias view whether you believe it or not.
.

Umm no not really. If you've been around, you would know I'm a huge fan of track and field and I know quite a bit. I say they both are equally the star of the games since Jamaica's 4x100 smashed the world record. To say one is greater than then the other is just ignorant because you'll never know the answer.

Uhhh, I've been around 6 months longer than you have I just don't post as much. . But yeah I seen you like your track and field. Plus, when we're not saying who was greater than the other? It was about whose achievements were greater and who the star was of Olympics. On the bias view it's like me saying Steven Redgrave is a greater Olympian than Michael Phelps. The majority of people would assume that I'm being bias. Or even me saying Chris Hoy's achievements are greater than Usain Bolt's.

i'm not American  give credit where its due!

Be fair, maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick and you're perfectly unbias. But look there was a poll in GB and the "Greatest" Olympian of all time was Sir Steve Redgrave. Winning with 43% with Phelps 20%. What does that say? Favouritism or even bias. Similar in America. Phelps won with 39% and Sir Steve Redgrave 6%. It changes from country to country so you'll easily assume they're being bias. Maybe, Rivelution is fair and I'm probably wrong.

I didnt say I was here longer then you, thats why I said if you've been around.

But honestly like I said, I think Bolt and Phelps are on par to take the star of the games. Bolt donated $50,000 dollars to the American Red Cross, and I think thats awesome

Goodbye Olympics. :( I really enjoyed these Olympics, and I think the Chinese did a phenomenal job hosting the games. See you in 4 years in London.

Gloating British celebrate victory

After 20 years of Olympic humiliation, the British have celebrated beating Australia's gold medal tally with all the restraint and good taste that you'd expect.

Tabloid UK newspaper The Sun hired tray-top trucks in both Sydney and London that were mounted with giant signs comparing Britain's (19) and Australia's (14) gold medal counts and driven around the respective cities.

Emblazoned across a Union Jack background was the question "Where the bloody hell were you?", referencing the Lara Bingle-led tourism ad campaign.

The signs also hint at Australia's relative "failure" in cycling, rowing and other sports in which the contestants sit down — events with obvious appeal to the British and where they accumulated the bulk of their gold.

The Sun even scoured London for an Australian called Bruce, finally cornering 48-year-old Bruce Howes in what they termed a "posh Kensington High Street" and confronting him with the rare defeat.

"We'll get you next time," he warned.

British expat Suzie O'Carroll, who forwarded a mobile phone photo of the truck driving along George St this morning to ninemsn, said she thought the Sun had been "pretty darn quick" in setting up the prank.

"I've heard that the bookies are offering odds of 4/7 on Britain getting more medals next time and the same odds of us beating Australia," she said.

"I'm sure the Aussies will pour everything into avoid that, but I think the GB will still come out on top."

Asked if she might rub in another victory for the motherland amongst Antipodean colleagues, Ms O'Carroll said: "Well, maybe just a little bit."

British excitement is understandable: it is the first time since the 1988 Seoul Olympics that the country has topped Australia's medal count.

The fervour has been further increased by the prospect of federal sports minister Kate Ellis wearing red, white and blue clothing to a sporting event involving the two countries as a result of a bet with her British equivalent Gerry Sutcliffe.

A spokesman for Ms Ellis said she had not yet decided when she would meet the obligation but "would be looking at the calendar in the coming months to see in which events the two nations clash".

Great Britain got more Gold Medals than Italy as well. That hasn't happened in a long time as well. Does the fact that London will host the 2012 Olympics have anything to do with Great Britains recent surge in success? :hehe:

Britain is pathetic. It just goes to show how poo we are that we have to boast our first bit of success in something since God knows when and make out that we are the world's sporting superpower. Big deal! We actually achieved something in the Olympics for once - something we should have been doing a long time ago with all the millions of pounds of tax payer's cash being given to British Olympic hopefuls. Doing well at one Olympiad hardly gives us the right to wind up the Aussies given that they have trounced us in just about everything for many, many years with a third of the population. If we do well at the next few Olympic Games and various other sports, such as Rugby etc., then we'll maybe have the right to shout the odds, but for the moment we should shut it. This is precisely why I love to see British sports fail. The media will never shut up with their cringeworthy coverage about these Olympics for years on end now.

Easy solution - change the tv channel... don't read papers haha!

If that's not bad enough, we'll be getting some Glasgow 2014 shoved down our throats, more and more now...
Great...
