Well if the proof is in the eating it must be Kimi

Fastest laps 2008

Australia : Heikki Kovalainen
Malaysia: Nick Heidfeld
Bahrain: Heikki Kovalainen
Spain: Kimi Raikkonen
Turkey: Kimi Raikkonen
Monaco: Kimi Raikkonen
Canada: Kimi Raikkonen
France: Kimi Raikkonen
Britain: Kimi Raikkonen

Go Heikki, Kimi only has 4 more than you

Oh? Kimi not only has the most fastest laps this season but also the fastest laps on those 2 wet races, Monaco and Britain. That is pretty good stuff considering I have almost been lead to believe that Hamilton is the best in the wet. Ok so why not give extra points for the driver who gets the fastest lap time in a race? It would make for a more interesting championship and it would also mean that Kimi Raikkonen who apperently has been the quickest in most races so far this season can get more of a reward for his efforts.

he set them when the track was drying in Monaco and then in Britain he set it just before his stop and just before the rain. no one was able to come close to it again because it was never that dry for the rest of the race.

True bud, but weren't all the drivers on the same track at the same time.
It wasn't as if Kimi was the only one with ideal conditions was it ?
Was Kimi the only one going for it at that stage of the race.
Sorry I don't see the logic with your point

tyre wear was an issue for most at the closing stages of the race in Monaco and Kimi had just made a pit stop after crashing into Sutil in doing so put on new tyres along with a new wing. He set the fastest lap on the freshest tyres of anyone.

as for Britain the track was coming to his tyres, which is why he chose to stay on them unfortunately for him it rained again. while Lewis for example had graining in the drying conditions and could not push like Kimi.

but all that matters is and who the fastest is who wins at the end. the time it takes to start and finish a Grand Prix the quickest not the time it takes to start and finish 1 lap in a grand prix

Yeh your right but you seem to be so eager to down play fastest laps. Could it be because the hameroide is not the one with them.
Then you also have to take into account that Kimi has 6 of the 9 fastest lap. That alone tells you something. It's not only 1 or 2.

This thread is titled who's quickest so from the stats it's Kimi.

im not eager to downplay fastest laps im eager to downplay using them as the end all for fastest driver

for example a driver is consistently doing 1 31.3 something

another driver is consistently doing 1 33.3 something but in one lap throws in a 1 30

does this make him the fastest driver?? i say no

this is my beef with using fastest race laps as a guide

Yes agreed but its a good starting point

the fastest driver is the one who finishes first. So thats built on consistancy. Take the tortoise and the hare for example. we can all learn alot from them :hehe:

as for fastest one off laps, take it from fastest laps from all weekend and see who put in the fastest lap. but it wont account for sod all unless you win the race or get a pole...

They all have a claim but because of consistency it has to be Alonso for me. Consistency wins you world titles and kimi's is very inconsistent and won the title because of Mclaren mistakes. Alonso in a Ferrari would be back to the days Schumi in the 2002 Ferrari

The thing with fastest laps is that you can see how fast CAN a driver be given the right conditions. I definitely think Kimi is having a little bit the same kind of issues Heidfeld is having. Notice how his lap times signifficantly improve once the tyres set in and how he has not done so great in Q. The fact the Kimi has not been able to show the results his fastest laps and potential suggest are to me, more down to: strategy, luck and car/tyre issues. But in all of the tracks (minus some outstanding dominating performances from Massa and Lewis) he's been on the winning pace.

So i say:
Fastest = Kimi
Potentially fastest = Hamilton, edging Massa on consistency
Most complete package = Alonso

I think that Kimi is fastest on single laps but Lewis is fastest on race distance but tends to make mistakes by pushing too hard.

Yes, thats cos until now his car has been slightly slower and he's been trying to make it up. It's not slower any more....so watch out
