Whether it was his McLaren working the intermediate tyres harder than the rest of the field (thereby generating heat and grip) or just raw driving skill, Lewis Hamilton really impressed me during the British GP at Silverstone - and I'm not a fan. So, Alonso, Hamilton and Raikkonen in the same car (not the same car, but the same spec :hehe: ) - who'd come out on top?

IMHO - Raikkonen is probably quickest over a single lap.
Hamilton capable of driving fast the whole race - but can make mistakes when he overdrives.
Alonso - never stops pushing, can perform awesome overtakes and is likely to get the most from his equipment.

I honestly don't know - threeway draw?

Hamilton has put in some good single laps as well, so I don't think there's a lot between Raikkonen and him. Hamilton is prone to the occasional gaffe and Raikkonen goes to sleep in some races. Alonso is maybe not quite as fast as either of those two, but is able to maximise a car's performance and develop it better than most drivers. Alonso, however, causes some unrest in his teams and has a tendency to do silly things when he's desperate. Which you driver a team boss choses would probably be based on what exactly the team is looking for.

I think they all have pros and cons so it's probably too close to call.

I think Kimi is faster over a single lap, maybe not a race distance though.

Monaco and Britain were virtue of the weather and track and tyre conditions but the rest yeah he has put in the fastest laps. not that fastest race laps equates to much, a grand prix is 70 laps not 1. who is fastest over a race is more important to me!

and a side note i remember in 06 Kimi was getting fastest lap on the last lap of races when he needed to save his engine for the next GP :irked:

Yeh ultimately the fastest driver over the race wins but Kimi has proven to be the quickest when he wants to.

And on a side note
Kimi's fastest laps
Spain: lap 46
Turkey: lap 20
Monaco: lap 74
Canada: lap 14
France: lap 16
Britain: lap 18

Most were early on in the race when everyone was trying there hardest :)

Well, I'll throw in my opinion on Kubica and Massa as well just for chat value...

1. Kimi: To me the definite fastest driver. To me he can be dominant in any race and any track. He races to win... But is aparently not as determined on being "the best" as... Alonso and Lewis are, and this can show up in the overall Championship standings.

2. Lewis: He can come up with stunning / dominant drives. Although I have never seen him dominate in the un-dominant car, and I have never seen him pull out an amazing climb or manage great results from a seemingly lost race (one could argue about Turkey... but whatever), like Kimi has. I'm no fan of this guy :)

3. Alonso: like Lewis, he wants to be the best above all. To me he has a more intelligent driving style and championship winning approach. Great passer. to me the most balanced and complete driver in F1.

4. Kubica: the most 'no bulls##t' driver out there. He's drives to win races and to be fast, not to be "the best". With a bit more experience and the right car he could be the driver to beat.

5. Massa... peaky and unpredictable. But determined and commited. He can definitely dominate and he's been better than Kimi at setting up the F2008, which seems to be a nightmare... I'd give him one more full season to polish his act. Nice down to earth guy. He seems to love F1.

Hmm. Put Raikkonen, Massa, Hamilton, Kubica and Alonso in the same car, with no bias (so, a team like Williams or Force India or Honda, where none of them have ever been) and then we'll talk about who is actually the fastest. :)

That would be cool to watch!!

Definitely so. I'd love to see all 22 drivers (yes, that includes the Super Aguri lads) in identical cars with identical setups. I think there'd be some surprises in there, especially from those older drivers who people don't seem to rate much anymore. I think the front would definitely consist of the five mentioned, with Heidfeld possibly having a look-in as long as the identical car isn't the BMW :)
