The no-refuelling during the Safety Car is a very sensible rule in that it reduces the possibility of exactly what happened at Canada... as soon as the SC comes in, everyone rushes and races WITHIN the pit lane to refuel and lose as little race/track position as possible.

But what happens to the guys still on the track behind the SC at reduced speeds? they won't be able to benefit for this situation and even worse, might get to drive by the pit exit while the train comes out. Also remember that around the pits there's much non-driving personnel in high risk possitions... so the pits should be made as safe as possible.

The pit lane should be opened for refuelling to those cars who HAVE to refuel on the lap the SC comes out. Otherwise, it becomes crazy. How can the FIA do it? I don't know, its difficult, maybe the teams can submit their "fuel" data to race control to prove they have less than a lap of fuel less or whatever... :?:

Canada was, as i know you support these 2but Coulthard won't be able to get onto the podium again ,and Kubica won't win again....Lewis will get pole and will have accidents again :) the results werea fluke..

Well, Kubica is leading with only 1 victory... figure that out. With this points system, he can theoretically win championship just by being consistently good - if winning guys continue having occasional flukes. But I also believe BMW will improve their performance relative to other big guys as well... so I wouldn't count them out.

I guess they could make some kind of low-fuel-level sensor with radio that actually can inform stewards car has fuel for only a lap or two... in which case that car would exclusively be granted access to the pits... or, they can let them refuel, but not change tires during the safety car... so only really desperate ones will go for it.

Tyres and Fuel, tyres and fuel... go together like a horse and carriage, this I say my brother: you can't have one without the other... 8)

On this matter, I agree completely with Fact Man. Hamilton's arrogance is sickening, and, saying as he does truly believe that he is God's gift to the earth, he should be judged accordingly. Once again, the Hamilton family's false modesty has been revealed. The whole pack make me want to throw up.

I kind of smelled that side of Lewis last year when he said the team asked him to do all he can to make Alonso feel at home (he was rookie and they didn't just tell him, they ASKED him like champion would be asked to make rookie feel at home in his first F1 season  )... the way he said that sounded like he was doing them all incredibly huge favor and whole world need knowing how great person he is. I guess that turned on my Lewis radar, and it seems not without a good reason.

Tex, the rules are there for safety reasons in the first place, so I don't see why you'd want to remove something that is going to protect people.

Well, the exercise is to filter people who really need fuel without jamming pits with all the drivers trying to take advantage over the situation.

they are the best drivers in the world, except for two guys coming around in the safety car. The two guys that could have ran the red lights (I said lights because there's TWO red lights flashing) should have been Kimi and Robert. They both came out of their pit stalls the same time, ran down the pit lane next to each other, their minds are racing madly thinking what to do, they are pushing buttons madly on their steering wheels, they are ready to shut of the pit limiter, looking over at each other to see who will blink first, and they bam, being the professional drivers that they are, they see the BLINKING RED LIGHTS and slammed on the brakes. These two had more going on in their minds then the two behind them yet they understand the situation.

The turbo era mostly.

Now that would be something.
Even back to the mid 1990s would do me tbh. Hpefully 2009 car regs at least like that. As for the rules bout pits, safety cars, etc.. prob not

The alternative would be to ban refuelling and make it so that cars had to have tanks that could hold enough fuel for an entire race distance, but then we would lose a lot of the strategic thinking that has become part of the sport.

maybe that would increase the actual racing on the track and make kimi's strategy of winning races during the pit stop obsolete which would be no bad thing
