Ok so where does the battle stand?

Seems like the MP4 has the superior suspension and hence the best mechanical grip. Very good at chicanes... And while most were assuming the F2008 to have the best straight line / top speed, it was the Mclaren setting the fastest 3rd sector and highest speed at the trap in Montreal. So definitely surprised there... although i must say it came from the better mechanical grip at the exit of Turn 10, but still that top speed was alarmingly better than the Ferraris.

Ferrari seems better in Aero and with race set-ups. The set ups maybe because the 2 drivers are more experienced and have a more simmilar style so they have twice the time and data to work with...

Another crucial thing is I'm guessing Bridgestone over estimated tyre spinning and heating as a result of lack of TC, and made the compound harder to heat up (also has anyone noticed you noticed this year has been colder?)... in the end this is hurting the smoother drivers, in the begginig of stints and in Q, and helping the raw pacers like Robert and Hamilton. Eventually the others level up in the race... but sometimes the damage has already been done.

Was kinda hoping to see how much fuel Mclaren had in Montreal, but that 1st stop must have been unscheduled for both... so again, as in Monaco, how much fuel did the MP4 actually have compared to the F2008 :?:?:?:

this wil cause many arguments, on my own personal views it depends on the different tracks, and at the time also the set up, Kimi was obviously heavy fuelled, hense why he was slow, then all of a sudden he went from 3 seconds behind Kubica to a mere 0.705 seconds? the next race will proove otherwise, in my opinion it will be Massa at top! as he seems to have a really good quallyfying place, only problem is they have bad tyre warm up so thats the only disadvantage in my books :)

Def agree with you F1ea, it seems that the f20008 is more suited to the aero tracks than the MP4-23, the question then is are Ferrari going to struggle next year with the lack of aero in the rules, does Mclaren have a bit of an advantage by having a car with more mechanical grip to build from?

Hybrid engines are coming into play next season, and Honda will have the upper hand as they are the experts when it comes to hybrid engines :)

How strict is the control over what they can do to recover energy? Like will they all be using the same kind of system working in the same way or will they have more freedom than that?

The MP4-23's better handling over the kerbs and mechanical grip suggests to me that Monza could be another McLaren "silver-wash" again this year unless Ferrari play their cards right.

They will be strict on the systems, its very different to anything that the major car firms are working on from what i have read and will be somewhat mechanicly based somehow using flywheels and what not

I don't think the step towards hybrid KERS technology will handicap non-honda teams. Honda, Toyota and Ford may already be mass-producing hybrid engines, but this doesn't mean other manufactures don't have the knowledge / technology to develop such engines.

I have to say I took a great deal of pleasure from last season's Italian Grand Prix.

From the look of things, you probably will enjoy that win again :|
BUT it will definitely be closer, While the kerbs and chicanes in Monza are brutal... it doesn't have as much fast-stop-accel as Canada, so don't pop that champagne until the checkered... :)

I missed last year's Monza GP due to work but was crushed to hear that Ferrari got their butt handed to them on their home track but that's racing.

The FIA and Italian police made an equally bad job of ensuring a Ferrari victory. They just made McLaren angry and want to give them the two fingers! The police hovering around McLaren on Saturday morning. Schumacher handing Ron Dennis the winning constructor's trophy on Sunday afternoon.

And Alonso (hate figure a year before for the Italians) on the top step. Magical stuff.

Reverse that to Monza 89 though. :D:wink:
