He wasn't so close to the pits last year in Turkey when his tyre went he was at turn 8, still quite a way to get back
this was done from the gap he and the front runners built up over the midpack, the wheel came off towards the end of the lap so he didnt lose heaps of time coming into the pits and the time making the stop and coming back on track was still enough time to get out infront P5 down
Plus, the pit lane in Monaco is really short. I think the shortest in all of F1. And since it was wet, the average speed was much slower... so, losing 20 sec when people are doing 250 kmh is a lot worse that losing the same 20 secs when they are going around at 150 kmh. That's why the best time to pit is while the SC is out...
Hammie's flats have ussually happened very close to the pits... so he doesn't lose much time. Even more so, he got a flat on his slow down lap after the checkered... Lucky fella. The "luck of the Champions" i call it
