Following the very unfortunate elimination of Adrian Sutil, by Raikkenen in Monaco, I wonder if, in this mega money business, there should be a compensation scheme to recompense teams for losses under certain conditions, for damages caused by an accident on track.
I do not think that there should be compensation for every bit of contact, but, where a team is severely handicapped because the actions of another driver, as in the case of Force India / Sutil & Raikkenen, there should be some compensation paid by the 'guilty' team.I acknowledge that KRs accident was an accident, but the effect on Force India has been substantial I think.
I dont actually know the cost to Force India of this incident, (I am not just talking about the cost of repairs, but the financial benefits to the team of constructors points. A.S. was clearly on track for a 4th position finish until taken out by K.R. should there not be some compensation in this case?
I think also that deliberate or unproffesional carelessness (as shown by Alonso when he 'T' boned Heidfeld on Sunday) should result in compensation for both mechanical losses and commercial losses.
The decision made by a panel of independents (definitely not including anyone from Ferrari)
Most accidents are racing incidents and should not come into this, but I think that F.India deserves some benefit for their performance.
Does anyone know how the commercial income is 'divied' out to the teams? :?

It was very sad to see Sutil go out of the race like that, for him and the team and I think everyone feels the same but I can't see anything like that working. Can you say for definite what the outcome of the race would've been if Kimi hadn't gone in to the back of him?

Well, if it was Kimi's fault he could have been punished, but I think it was just a race accident - it could also have gone the other way round.

s*** happens - I really feel sorry for Sutil and for the Force India team, it would have been sensational for them to take 4th place

I see what you mean, but I hope that never happens. I think that would affect the drivers and they would be too afraid too pass one another, which wont make good racing.

As it happened you heard James Allen saying Something about Ferrari getting a big bill from Force India, or something to that effect. It cost Force India some prize money for sure.
However he could not have been serious. While it was definitely Kimi's fault, it's just a racing incident, and he didn't do anything against the rules(i.e. make some dumb move or attack in an unrealistic place, etc) so it probably is covered by something itn the rules or agreement that you waive all the other teams of finacial liability in instances such as this. I'm just guessing.

This is a dumb idea! Just imagine the table turned and AS stupidly crashed into RK in his last race where he needed one point to win the title. Financial compensations would simply ruin a small team and they'd have to close shop!

Yes, I do see the point, it was just sooo unfair on F.I. I know that it would probably be impossible to impliment anyway, with appeals etc.
However, maybe there is still a case for compensation to be paid where a driver is penalised. (as Alonso should be for his damage to NH). Of course the Raikkenen / Sutil prang was a genuine racing incident and would not count.

Although I'm not a big Raikkonen fan, it wasn't his fault.

Of course, compensation would be reasonable if he was found to have done it deliberately but in this case it wasn't. Force India had an awful start to the season, but as their boss said, all they've done is proven they can do it and they want to keep it up.

As goodwill gesture Ferrari could offer Force India compensation (but Ferrari doesn't do goodwill) or kimi himself could do it out of his own pocket but making it mandatory is not a good idea. Racing incidents happen all the time it was just bad luck on AS

Don't think we'll see any nice things coming out of Kimi, nor Ferrari.

I thought this 8ball. i can see the difficulty of implementing a compensation package but it wolud have been a nice gesture from ferrari. it wouldnt have given adrian his points back but would have gone some way to recognising his achievement and been a big help to Force India. Dream on I guess though

They could offer to ship the newest Ferrari engine developments free of charge for the rest of the season. Fat chance.

I'm pretty sure that no team or driver on the grid would bother to do such a thing. Apologising, yes, but not giving them money.

What happened to Sutil was unfortunate, but one of those things that can happen in racing. They should be given nothing. Ialso think a compensation scheme would be open to far too much interpretation, so wouldn't really work.
