Im sorry I dont wanna offend, but I gave it ago, i've never liked the IRL prefer Champ Car and circuit racing. It just doesnt work for me. For one the Dallara cars arent nice on the eye.

Dude we already talked about this in another thread lol.

And just to let you know...again, I've always preferred Champ Car. I always hated the IRL because Tony George is the owner and he screwed over open-wheel racing in America. I always was a CART fan and Ganassi/Target racing was my favorite team. CART was my favorite race series, and I didnt get into F1 until after all the major teams left to the IRL when the 02 season was over. If it werent for the split and the death of CART, I probably never would have been a fan of F1.

Well anyway back on topic I would say this was one of if not the best Indy 500 since the split?

Yeah, I just wanted to drill it home. I want the IRL to work due to the CART teams, but surely they are going to have to adopt more circuit races?

And yeah deff, I think it was one of the best Indy 500's for a bit, not as good as CART :D
Certainly it'll get better though!

I am not disagreeing at all but you we must admit we never saw the wheel to wheel action from CART like we do the IRL right? Also yes the IRL need's atleast a 50/50 split between roadcourse's and oval's and yes I also agree the
serie's will certainly get better. :)

well Tony George is saying that there will be a 50-50 split between road courses and ovals by next year, and a new chasis hopefully next year but definately by 2010. I hope Tony incorporates turbo-charged engines because that is the signature sound of an indy car. I'm going to see my first IRL race ever this year at infineon raceway in Sonoma.

I am a boost head so one can only hope. Tony has taken the IRL 'green' so I hope he realize's that turbo's are more efficient, they have made a strong comeback as of late in production car's but the cost could be detrimental to keep's the serie's afforadable.

I dont think it will hurt the series because Champ Car DP01's had turbos and those cars were meant to be affordable. They also had the 'push to pass' button from the extra boost which actually makes great racing, and thats another thing I hopeTony will incorporate.

The point is a turbo car is more expensive to build, extra part's, and more expensive to tune but I hope they can find a way to make tubo's affordable.

Yeah, I think you're right. Certainly didnt get the same level of wheel to wheel in Champ car's last few years. Mind you, Long Beach 98 for example, there was tons, back in CARTS heyday. It all depends what you are looking for. If you want to see over taking after over taking certainly the IRL and oval racing in general is for you. And I do enjoy it whenever I get the chance to watch it, but I find circuit racing can be a completly different experience altogether, you don't such large number passes, because I guess the cars just arent designed for it? Guess it's just not the way racing is done. I think they both have different, but equal amounts of excitement.

And yeah the unified series helps alot, but we need NHL to get up there again to make it seem like old times. Also I feel Wilson was a shoe in for CC this year, now he's running at the back of IRL :(

ALso is it still IRL or have they renamed it the Indy car series?

That was a damn good race. Gil de Ferran was my favorite CART driver and I really wanted him to win, but it was great to see Zanardi upset Herta...again. lol

ahh yes I remember that, I thought Brack was going to win that. Did you see the 01 Laguna Seca race? It was one crazy race!! I was sitting on the hillside by turn 1 and the thing I remember most was Oriol Servia's front flip on turn 2!!

I couldnt find a highlight of the race, but here this video show's all the accidents. It was a crazy race, and I think 2001 was the last great season of CART.
