Have I driven F1 cars? No. Have I sat in them, yes. Have I driven single-seaters, yes. Unless you've x-ray vision the halo is going to make a significant difference to viewability.

Suggest you do some research - plenty of videos show the trajectory quite nicely. It's likely it would have made it inside the halo - hence why I believe an alternative should be sought.

Did I say that though? No. I referred to the fact you could drop a bouncing wheel on the drivers head with or without the halo fitted. Look at the top down view of the system. Again, this is why I believe an alternative system is required.

Sagi, it's a security setting, most browsers won't show secure, https and nonsecure http together by default.

You used to be able to click on the shield in the address bar to allow mixed content, but that seems to have disappeared now. However, I managed to get it to work by adding a shortcut parameter, which allows secure and non-secure content to be displayed together, but beware, this could be dangerous as it allows non-secure data to been shown on all https sites.

Here's the code you'll need; right click on your Chome shortcut and select properties, then the shortcut tab (if not already selected) and copy and paste the following (assuming Chrome is installed in the default directory) into the target box then click OK.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --allow-running-insecure-content

FIA will raise the time limit for the mandatory cockpit evacuation test. It's 5 seconds now. With Halo it will be around 8-10 seconds.

So they have increased the risk of a driver being severely burned in favor of potentially stopping debris, that's a trade off that makes zero sense.

We see cars on fire far more frequently than we do drivers get hit by debris. This seems to be standard fare for FIA decision making, force it through and move the compliance goal posts.

You cannot say this because you don't have experience of what it is like to drive an F1 car with the halo attached. Those who have experience, i.e. the F1 drivers, say that vision is not a problem and there is no reason whatsoever to disbelieve them on this point.

To say it is likely that the debris would have passed the halo and still hit Massa on the head based solely on viewing videos of the incident does not count as research, it is guesswork. Again, you have no way of proving what effect the halo would have had in that moment.

This does not make any sense, you cannot drop a bouncing wheel, and even if you could why would you want to do it on a driver's head?

Like what? There is no better alternative right now and all the teams agreed that for next year onwards extra cockpit protection is to be implemented. If you really believe the halo has no safety benefits despite all the R&D carried out then why don't you contact the FIA and explain this to them?

We disagree then.

Highly recommend watching yesterday's driver conferences (especially the second one) and the various interviews (best one being with Massa - who himself couldn't say whether this device would have saved him from injury) to see just what the drivers think of this. Yes, it's great the FIA are thinking about safety, they should be commended - it's the execution I, and most drivers, have issue with.

Right, going to attach a scaffolding pole to my dashboard now - I'm sure it won't make any difference to my driving enjoyment. (there's even a smily for it!)

I like the idea of the Halo on safety grounds, but surely the obvious solution is to have two prongs on either side rather than right in front of the driver. That seems more unsafe.
Also (I realise plastic is a bit heavier) but you can get really strong CLEAR plastics.
