Why can't FOM / FIA just admit they got it wrong and revert back to a format that was generally liked. Aggregate times are better than the timed knockout format, but still not right for F1.

Formula 1's teams appear poised to reject the aggregate qualifying system in Thursday's vote, Autosport understands.

The proposal for the new format came following a meeting of the 11 teams, FIA president Jean Todt, F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone and Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery in the paddock ahead of last Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix.

An evaluation process of the system has since been carried out, but sources have confirmed to Autosport the teams are against the suggested set-up.

They are not alone as some drivers have also voiced their objections.

Four-time F1 champion Sebastian Vettel led the chorus of disapproval by describing aggregate qualifying as "a s*** idea", adding that "it's time to go to the circus".

Fans have also added their voice, with numerous polls showing even the current unpopular elimination format to be ahead of the aggregate proposition.

The idea would involve drivers' two best laptimes being combined to reach an aggregate, and would apply to all of Q1, Q2 and Q3.

Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo stated: "Qualifying is one lap, that one perfect lap."

We are basically back to where we were after the Australian GP, it still has to make it through the F1 Strategy Group and F1 Commission before it can be ratified. It's quite possible that the situation could change again before China, frankly at this point, I have zero faith in F1 to get their s**t together.

The return to Formula One's 2015 qualifying format has been officially signed off by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council ahead of this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix.

The change was agreed last week when Bernie Ecclestone and FIA president Jean Todt agreed to back down on proposals for further change to the qualifying hour after a new live-elimination format for 2016 flopped at the first two races. The rest of the season will now be conducted under the same Q1, Q2 and Q3 system that was used throughout 2015.

"The World Motor Sport Council today approved, via e-vote, the decision to revert to last season's qualification format for the remainder of the 2016 FIA Formula One World Championship," an official statement read. "The format, where the slowest six cars are eliminated at the end of the first two qualifying sessions before a final ten-car shootout for Pole in Q3, will return for this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix."
