I feel the race was somewhat muted for two reasons... Nico Rosberg screwing up so early on, and once again denying us the chance to see the Merc drivers have a scrap on-track. But also Pirelli bringing rock-solid tyres.

What it does go to highlight is how much more excitement Pirelli have brought to F1 over the past few years. When their unpredictability and degradation is taken away (i.e. today) it is liable to make it a little more processional.

However, Eddie Jordan was speaking to Paul Hembrey on the issue. Indeed, lack of previous experience at this circuit came into play, and it's not something which is likely to occur next season here.

It was indeed the most boring GP of the year so far.

Which is a shame, as it was incredibly well attended for a first-time event...

Yes it looked like almost all of Putins bodyguards showed up.

They filled the stands with cadavers from commercial flights shot down nearby.

EDIT: I joke of course. But I think it was a visual trick played by the fact that there are surprisingly few grandstands around the circuit. Did anyone notice that? Apparently attendance was 55k, not that high actually considering Putin's entourage outnumbered the fans.

Just finished watching the recording...
First off, wish there was a "like" button. Some of your posts are hilarious!
Not often that the first lap is the ONLY exciting lap? Announcers were saying how Perelli
messed up with the medium tyre option, then Nico goes the whole race on them to finish second?!
And if Button is "gone", he sure is not showing it!

Suprised that the Hamilton fans haven't noted how Rosberg went from last to 2nd today, whereas both times Hamilton came from the back he could only finish 3rd ;)

Thought Rosberg drove really well following his mistake. Massive damage limitation - 52 laps on the mediums was a good effort considering they were only supposed to do 29!

Rosberg didn't really come from the back. He was effectively off sequence. The fact that his tyres held on easily with no real problems tells you straightforward it was. If the race had more stops he wouldn't have finished 2nd.

The circumstances are completely different to any Lewis recoveries because of the tires not degrading and the fact Rosberg pitted and just covered the rule. Hamilton and half the field could have done the same thing.

I believe those sentiments have been expressed by Hamilton fans, go back and take a little peek. Rosberg did as well as he could after screwing up at the start, second place , a huge recovery.
However were it not a one stop race with tyres that would go the whole race he likely wouldn't have been on the podium.

Hmm see I think that the stop makes little difference, everyone looses the same time in a pit stop, give or take and most front runners normally do the same number of stops, so I think with his pace and the pace of the Merc Rosberg would have made it to the podium even if the tyres had some deg on.
