Whoop whoop!!! POLE!!!!!!!!
Bottas was amazing, not sure if he'd have had pole because Lewis' sector 3 was amazing, but he'd have had Rosberg for sure.

Bottas would have been at least 2nd for sure. Would have been very close between him and Lewis but I think he would have missed out by a tenth. Lewis didn't string his best sectors together there and on his pole lap he did a purple middle sector but didn't improve in the first or last sectors.

Yeah Lewis was comfortable still, Bottas could have taken 2nd though.

RC you forgot to mention Kvyat who did perfect, I hope they have a good race setup because they've walked all over Red Bull

Bottas was too hard on his tyres in the first sector and paid for it in the last. No doubt lewis and Nico could have overheated their tyres in sector 1 and then suffered in sector 3. so I do not think Valteri would have made pole, maybe 2nd. A lesser driver would have gone off

I was praying Bottas would split the Mercs and make it hard for Nico in the race while Lewis streaks away... But not today.

Also an interesting subject was that Lewis in qualifying did slower first & third sectors than he did in FP3 but only by a few fractions. But shaved 0.3 off in the middle sector.

I combined them and that would put him at a 38.198.

I think the main thing we learnt about this circuit is that no one appears able to do their best possible time trhrough all sectors, so many corners have to be taken with a view to the next couple etc, and the twisty street style parts plus the grip then flow parts means your tyres really have to be managed over 3 sectors not one - like we saw with Bottas. In the first sector yu can go fast by tightly clipping around the apex's but the tyres then are overheated by the time the last twiisty bits come, whereas if you are sloppier round the first bit letting the tyres breath more but taking a longer distance you are more even with the tyres over the 3 sectors

This is why so many kept over cooking corners all weekends realising that you cant just trash it cause you loos performance quick in the tyres - not from deg but from heat - which flies in the face of a lot of other places

if that makes sense
