I'm sure Hamilton would have much rather had his car not go on fire the previous day than the safety car coming out to "help" him.

All the safety car did for Lewis was to bunch the filed up for him and reduce the gap to the leader. He didnt gain a position. Who the leader was and why is irrelevant as he was gonna despatch any car in front anyway. In Bharain the safety car came out and did the same for Rosberg, who was still unable to pass despite faster tyres, drs AND a higher engine mode
In Germany the safety car wasnt deployed when it should have been.

Yet Lewis is the lucky one with safety cars :rofl:

the best one I have heard is that Nico was overtaken by JEV and Alonso because he had issues ONLY at that moment because he then proceeded to overtake JEV but as we know Nico might have almost studied for an engineering degree, but he aint very clever with overtaking by stealth or by guile. even in the fastest car he couldnt keep ahead of JEV just as he couldnt keep ahead of Lewis in Bharain. JEV saw him coming a mile away, opened the door and then took the place back as Nico was still working out why it was suddenly so easy to pass.

According to the haterz though JEV is a future WDC and that race was when he really showed his credentials. I even heard that the track conditions suited the slower cars during the 1/3 of the race Nico was stuck behind JEV.

And here is another gem from the 'blind non appreciator' society - Nico had brake problems that held him up, but Lewis' brake issue at the start that resulted in car damage is not a factor as he drove his way around it

Just checking to see if Lemon is reading these.

Nope, can't read.

I don't think Lewis really gained from the safety car as he was closing up on others quite quickly but Nico certainly lost out by the safety car, possibly costing him the win.

what am I missing about the standings?

I just noticed that the Nico's 4th place is the only time this year that a Mercedes has finished a race and not been on the podium.

I didnt want to interrupt RyRy while he was schooling Roth on tyre wear dynamics and other aspects of F1 but i was just wondering if Roth actually thinks through the things he says, and if they sound illogical or ridiculous says them anyway

He didn't "allow" him past, what the hell are you talking about, he got outraced by a Toro Rosso, you can see that because the lap after he was first overtaken he still attempted to make two moves on Vergne but failed.

He had brake issues straight after the SC. I'm not making this up. That's how Vergne got by. I thought this was just generally understood, and the issue was with Nico's inability to regain the place.

I mean how do brake issues allow the driver behind you to pass? If your brakes are not working well then your problem is not that you slow down. i mean if you brake you slow down the guy behind passes, if your brakes aint working why would that help the guy pass? Nico didnt go off the track into a corner and lose the place, he didnt overshoot anywhere, he continued lapping at the same speed as JEV, he didnt lose contol of the car, in fact nothing changed

but apparently his brakes were not working and he became slower :rofl::rofl:

Maybe he saw Lewis 2 cars behind and panicked, a bit like when Jenson would see Lewis behind him and would poo himself leading to unscheduled pit stop to 'gamble on a tyre strategy' They should take a leaf out of Alonso's book - when told Lewis is bearing down on him 'dont tell me that ever, I dont want to hear that'

Uh! If you've got problems with your brakes, you drive slower, i.e., you start braking much earlier in order to make the corner as you can't rely on your brakes 100%.

Vergne did not pass on a corner though, it looked more like coming out of it Nico jumped out of the way because he had the WDC in mind - thats what Sky said anyway

Yeah, let's reduce brake issues to a non-issue, that helps. Brake issues can manifest themselves in different ways, not just they work or don't work.

I have to put a stop to this right now. Nico's brakes overheated... you could see a trail of smoke in a couple of the shots at the rear of his car. Left rear most pronounced. So the fact that the brakes failed doesn't mean he had no brakes, it means that he had no KER so all of the work to stop the car had to be done by the brake rotor. Apparently a similar gremlin to Canada that reared itself here simply because of the low speed during the SC period not allowing the system to cool sufficiently.

So in this case since you can't recover energy, you can't release it so Nico did drop a few (couple) of spots due to that. If we want to be more reflective of the Lewis Defamation League, we'd do a Geet and just say something more along the lines of... Nico couldn't manage his brakes and then insert 2500 smilies.
