They did it for Nico's car at Hokenheim, the Time Russia team were staying in out hotel and they said the Merc boys had problems and were breaking curfew. Pretty sure they'll have to have done it last night as well to rebuild the whole car.

just thought this was appropriate to post again after that great race in case some of the newcomers missed it

Thats the fun of F1, anything can happen, anything usually happens,

however the confidence come from knowing that Lewis is the fastest (ergo bravest) driver, and that 1 item there is the only variable that WILL make a difference over time.

as long as he is the fastest man on the grid I am happy, if he is no longer the fastest man then I would be happy for the fastest guy, everything else that happens is part of the unpredictability of F1

hopefully roth is taking notes here about how the HDL is made up of different factions

That pass on Vergne.

THAT PASS!!!!! I went ballistic and my old man (who is down this weekend) told me to calm down....many laps left to go for the car to expire. Which brought me back down to earth quickly.

But wtf is up with Mercedes....asking Nico to be let through? F*CKED up call....Lewis has to watch his back from now. Merc don't seem to be playing much of a team game anymore.

It was an interesting call, and one which is likely to form the basis for plenty of debate over the next 4 weeks until Spa. DC immediately called it out as unfair on the BBC commentary, as Nico wasn't exactly all over the back of Hamilton's car at the time.

So did Brundle. And neither of those two, particularly Brundle, are Lewis fans. It's worrying!

To be fair to Merc, the first call was to 'not hold him up or get in his way as he was stopping again'

It was only when Nico couldn't drive fast enough that he was asked to let him pass

I was thinking let's see Nico sweep past on those faster tyres, then remembered Bharain

Maybe Nico is embarrassed and that's why he said afterwards that it was the team

Paddy Lowe said Lewis had a fuel pressure issue with his car during the race apparently, according to F1.com quotes.

He did pretty damn well with it then!
I wonder if they told Lewis he had that? Cos wasn't it something like that that caused his fire? And he had a burning bum in the race! Must have thought...here we go again!

It feels now that the extra speed Hamilton has is no longer an advantage because he finds a way of negating it. I'm starting to feel we've seen this before in Hamilton, this psychological weakness we pretend is misfortune.

It's gutting, I get that. But I realise Hamilton has a psychological weakeness that Nico's exploiting by proxy, and it's pointless denying it.

you could claim a bad memory :hooli-popcorn:

No, that's where it started for you.

Ah, wonder if that's why he was told to keep the revs high.

Hamilton had one helluva race!!
And, this was supposed to be a track that made it hard to pass,
at least, that's what his most staunch supporters were worrying about...

As the Tifosi say, "mai dire mai" -- "never say never"!!

Having said that, I realize Mercedes team order isn't popular; but, I would
like to give them the benefit of the doubt... something must have been
discussed/going on for them to ask Hamilton not to hold Rosberg up and
then to ask him to let Rosberg past.

Personally, I think because they knew that Rosberg had to pit again, they
didn't want to risk the two of them going wheel to wheel, when they were
on different strategies. YES, in retrospect it wasn't the best decision; but,
there was no way to know that Hamilton would be held up by a number of
drivers (yes, including Alonso), nor was there any way to know how quickly
Rosberg was going to be able to slice through the grid, considering that's
not where he's been strong this season. The only thing they could possibly
have predicted, with any accuracy, would be approximately when Hamilton's
tires might become a problem and even then they couldn't have known for
how long Hamilton was going to be in Alonso's dirty air whilst defending
from Ricciardo.

Do I agree with the how and the when? Nope! But, then again, I'm not the
one being paid big bucks to look at the data in front of me, make quick
calculations and then a split second decision based on all that!!

And, the gears low? I remember asking you that in the chat...
but, what exactly does that all mean?

Staying in a lower gear for longer means to use higher revs before changing up. Whether that has an effect on the fuel pressure or makes a difference to the fuel being injected or something else, I don't know.

Yep. Bonnington also said "fuel is no longer an issue, keep gears low and just go for it" when Lewis was behind Alonso.
