Mixed emotions. I'm pleased at what is a brilliant result for Alonso but at the same time i'm gutted he came so close to winning (especially as that was his best chance this season).
Perfect race from Alonso. Took a big gamble and even though he didnt win it paid off for him. Was my driver of the day. To hold off Lewis on less durable tyres for 31 laps was amazing. The key to the race was Ricciardo passing Lewis. Until then, Alonso had Lewis under control, but Ricciardo had more drive off the final corner and managed to pull a good move into T1.
As for Rosberg, this business about moaning that the SC cost him is rubbish. After the first SC he was AHEAD of Alonso, yet finished behind. Why? Because Alonso drove a better race and made the best out of his strategy. Alonso managed to pass Rosberg and Vergne. Rosberg for some reason couldnt pass Vergne. That was the difference.
As for Lewis not letting Rosberg past - he was spot on NOT to do so. Had he let Rosberg through he would have finished 4th and Rosberg at least 2nd (had he been directly behind Alonso on fresh tyres he'd have had him). So not letting Rosberg pass has gained Lewis a net 9 points!
A word on Kimi too - I have been hard on him recently as he hasnt been good enough, but today he drove a very good race to go from 16th to 6th. Much better from Kimi.
Driver of the day for me was Alonso - what he did on those soft tyres was special. NOBODY (and I include Hamilton in that) could have done what Alonso did today! Unbelievable!
