Mixed emotions. I'm pleased at what is a brilliant result for Alonso but at the same time i'm gutted he came so close to winning (especially as that was his best chance this season).

Perfect race from Alonso. Took a big gamble and even though he didnt win it paid off for him. Was my driver of the day. To hold off Lewis on less durable tyres for 31 laps was amazing. The key to the race was Ricciardo passing Lewis. Until then, Alonso had Lewis under control, but Ricciardo had more drive off the final corner and managed to pull a good move into T1.

As for Rosberg, this business about moaning that the SC cost him is rubbish. After the first SC he was AHEAD of Alonso, yet finished behind. Why? Because Alonso drove a better race and made the best out of his strategy. Alonso managed to pass Rosberg and Vergne. Rosberg for some reason couldnt pass Vergne. That was the difference.

As for Lewis not letting Rosberg past - he was spot on NOT to do so. Had he let Rosberg through he would have finished 4th and Rosberg at least 2nd (had he been directly behind Alonso on fresh tyres he'd have had him). So not letting Rosberg pass has gained Lewis a net 9 points!

A word on Kimi too - I have been hard on him recently as he hasnt been good enough, but today he drove a very good race to go from 16th to 6th. Much better from Kimi.

Driver of the day for me was Alonso - what he did on those soft tyres was special. NOBODY (and I include Hamilton in that) could have done what Alonso did today! Unbelievable!

Hamilton 'shocked' by team orders

Lewis Hamilton says he was stunned Mercedes asked him to move aside for Nico Rosberg during the Hungarian Grand Prix considering the fact the pair are currently fighting for the title.

During a supreme drive Hamilton went from the pit lane to third, though his chance of victory slipped away in the end on worn medium tyres behind Fernando Alonso. Nico Rosberg had been caught out by the original safety car period and eventually fell behind Hamilton, albeit on a three-stop strategy to his team-mate's two stop.

Hamilton was asked to let Rosberg through when his team-mate got within a second of him, but told Mercedes in reply: "I'm not slowing down for Nico. If he gets close enough to overtake, he can overtake". Rosberg stayed behind for eight laps before pitting but Hamilton says he should not have been asked to move over.

"If I'd let him past he would have beaten me," Hamilton said. "Also, I would have lost points to Nico. Obviously I was in the same race as him, just because he had one more stop than me doesn't mean I wasn't in the same race. He would have had the opportunity to pull away and then I thought he would come back and overtake me.

"I was very, very shocked that the team would ask me to do that. He didn't get close enough to overtake, I was not going to lift off and lose ground to Fernando [Alonso] or Daniel [Ricciardo], so it was a bit strange.

"I'm not quite sure what the situation was there. I'll go and talk to everyone and give them the benefit of the doubt, I'm sure it was perhaps for the right reasons. Ultimately I would have lost points today so it definitely feels strange, but I think it was the right decision for myself."

Hamilton says beating Rosberg on track and limiting the gap in the drivers' championship makes up for some of the pain of not winning the race at the end.

"I was just pushing as hard to get as high as I could. It's a great result. Obviously this is damage limitations. On the one hand I'm grateful to have been able to get through the difficulties I've had this weekend. I can't believe how things have gone."

Lewis has got Merc on the ropes here. EVERYONE heard the radio messages and EVERYONE saw how close Nico was in beating Hamilton on track using a superior strategy.

WHAT A RACE!
I must say, I was moaning and groaning about the things I didn't like about the new Formula this season, but I have to be honest, some of the racing we are seeing is simply stunning. This was a race to remember for so many reasons. Spectacular crashes...that the drivers walked away from, supreme driving skills, weather playing its part, strategies being varied, multiple race leaders, and quite possibly the nicest man in F1 on the top step of the podium.
Lewis, what a drive. I think that he drove the best race I've seen anyone drive in a long time. It would have been good if they'd all pitted in the latter 20 laps and had fresh rubber to race each other on, but I completely understand why they didn't. Given another 2-3 laps, Nico would have won that, but as podiums go, todays was pretty special.
Moment of skill for the day must surely be Vettel keeping that Red Bull out the wall. That was sublime!
Drive of the day for me is a 3 way tie for the three men on the podium. On paper, none of them should probably have been there so they deserve great credit.
As for the Lewis v Nico "let-him-pass-gate", I'm with Lewis on that one. Why should he get out of the throttle to that extent when Nico was at best, the neck end of a second behind. I don't see why they needed to make the order so persistently from that far back. Lets face it, not passing didn't hurt him. I've been defending Marcedes so far in the sense that I don't think there is an anti-Lewis conspiracy going on, but I do believe today with them orders today, its the first time I haven't liked what I'm hearing. But that's just me. I think the summer break will do them good, just let everyone calm down!
Sad for JB today, McLaren cost him a good result with the tyre call.
But on the whole, fantastic race. I may well watch it again!

ou est Geet, I quite miss his drunken stupor posts.

 I didn't drink today, lucky for everybody :hehe: I'll save up my tolerance for the belgian grand prix in a month's time  y'all better $#@!^& be ready!!:twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::drink::drink::drink::drink::drink::drink::drink:

What a race!! Pretty bummed rosberg didn't get the win. Fortunes changed a bit for hamilton today compared to yesterday for sure. Bit of a lucky break with the safety cars but he was due some good fortune. I don't mean that with any malice or to take anything away from his race today. Awesome job for alonso!! Couldn't believe he went so long on those tires!!! Luckily the track was cooler with the conditions so that helped him out a lot but what a BEAST!! And great job from ricciardo too!

What I'm about to say, I say from a mercedes standpoint and not from a standpoint of favoring one driver over another. Mercedes lost two chances for a win today when they didn't make hamilton move over for rosberg. As has been pointed out, hamilton would have gotten 4th had they done that, but at the time of the call, they were looking at rosberg gaining 3-4 seconds a lap like he did at the end for the chance of a win and also the possibility of hamilton's tires holding out for the win, so when they made that call, they were looking at TWO scenarios in which a win was at least feasible. I think hamilton made the right choice for himself by not just pulling over, and I don't hold that against him. I would have said the same thing, "yo, tell rosberg to get on my gearbox and then I'll let him through, but not a moment before." The ball was dropped when mercedes didn't emphatically tell him to GET THE $#@! OVER because from their pitwall they were looking at the possibility of TWO winning scenarios, two different strategies as I mentioned above. So all in all, whatever hamilton gained by finishing ahead of rosberg, mercedes lost in the end because they don't care who wins, as long as one of them does and preferably as a one-two. Again, I'd have done the same thing as hamilton, and that's coming from an obvious rosberg fan. But I think the team may come under criticism that is reminiscent of red bull last year in malaysia when they told both drivers to turn their engines down and one was like NOPE! It's a little different cuz they got the 1-2 but I expect mercedes may take some heat over this. Or not, because so many people think hamilton shits gold

Here's a thought, with 15 laps to go, when Hamilton was ahead of Rosberg before Rosberg stopped - any thoughts on what might have happened had Hamilton gone further with his concerns about the tyres and told them he wanted to switch and have another stop? We may have had TWO Mercs on fresh tyres continuing a fight whilst catching and passing the rest of the field? Perhaps even caught Riccardo? I had a gut feeling at the time that the team orders nonsense was playing out that Hamilton should have stopped too...

Hamilton might indeed sh!t gold....like his overtake on Vergne (move of the SEASON IMO) :D:D but your post makes complete sense.

I think Merc wanted Lewis to overtake Alonso way sooner but Lewis hung back, probably worried about making his tyres last 30 laps. They can still be given the benefit of the doubt, but I never expected them to put Lewis in a position where he could be robbed by his own teammate. FURTHERMORE, after all the SH!T he's dealt with over 2 weeks!!

Bottom line: ROSS BRAWN IS MISSED, MORE THAN EVER.

This Toto guy can't even ride a bike without getting injured. If he joined Brawn on a fishing trip he'd probably fall over and drown.

I'm glad you mentioned Ross because I JUST sent a text to my friend a few minutes ago saying, "if ross brawn were in the team there would have been no ifs, ands, or buts and one of the two mercedes drivers would likely be on the top step today." Mercedes definitely dropped the ball.

And I must rebuttle your comment about the overtake on vergne. Hamilton passed vergne on the same lap that vergne pitted. His tires were toast! So, yeah, TAKE THAT, BUSTA!!

Toast or not, that was rear wheel in the dirt, on the OUTSIDE of T4 at a high speed left kink, sorry but that was just BOSS. It's overtakes like this which I will not forget for years! :cloud9:

I agree...that overtake was sick. He made another one last year (on Webber), from same track which also ranks high with me.

Those team orders reek of bad business....especially after making your whole 2014 campaign about "letting our drivers race". #stunned

I tell you what, If Brawn were around we wouldn't be having this conversation because I doubt we'd have had the cockup issues on Lewis' car. He must be laughing all over his face as he catches his fish on a glorious sunset evening.
