I was on the throne, surveying my Kingdom when a thought came to me.

Is there a correlation between how much of a character a team principle is compared to team performance.

When you think of Ron, Frank, Christian (Newey), Eric, Nikki, Toto, Paddy.

Or if you go further back Enzo, Flavio, Ross, Colin, Ken.

You know who I mean just by using there 1st name. The only exception I can think of is Eddie Jordan. The are all characters and there various teams have done well. Compared to some teams currently in the grid that are faceless and do not seem to be doing well. I am thinking Sauber, Toro Rosso, Caterham, Marussia, Force India. I am pretty sure I would walk past there team principles on the street and not know them.

Maybe, but then again is it a chicken and egg effect? Do you not know them because they haven't been successful? You'll know Haas, and you knew Colin Kolles even though he's seen no success and you know Haas even though he's not been in the sport before.

In thinking about the current crop I made a quick comparison between Martin and Ron/Eric. I know Martin was criticized by a lot of McLaren fans. But I had to concede that the car he left the team had 2 podiums in Australia and since he left it has been all downhill as far results are concerned.

Ah, but that's because Lewis left! No data for anyone to copy, Rosberg copies it now.

jab, surely you'd recognise Monisha Kaltenborn?

Probably not if I saw her walking down the street. I would more likely recognise Graham Laudone (spl)

I would also like to point out that I saw a TV crew filming a short dark haired bloke with a monobrow walking through the middle of Oxford once. Then a few weekends later on the F1 coverage was an article on Fernando Alonso on his 1st year at Renault.

In principle, there's a distinct difference between a principle and a principal - I'm just saying...

...and a principality.

Haha, you're talking to the guy who pushed his way through a bunch of armed guards, put his arm round some woman to move her out the way, and never noticed it was Cherie Blair until someone told him later.

That said, I reckon I'd recognise monisha, vijay though maybe not as his appearance does seem to change.

It took you a while to mention it, eh? :P

((p.s. I didn't say you didn't notice it, right away, just that you hadn't mentioned it! ))

Some threads just get "buried" faster than others, I guess!!
