Oh I think he had the presence of mind to select the best tactic for pole at Monaco. Save your banzai lap till the end when the track has evolved and you can afford to take a risk because it's the last run and Monaco punishes the slightest error. What he didn't account for was the fact that he would be punished by his team mates error.

Even in the controversial circumstances, I am glad to see Nico take the win. It keeps the championship close, and I feel that Nico needed this win badly, in order to keep up momentum. Another win for Lewis may have been the beginning of the end.

Now, I was very curious about what Lewis had to say about his lap (it was two tenths up), so I took a peek at the FIA's list of fastest sector times. On his first run, which turned out to be the pole lap, Rosberg set a time of 19.826 for the first sector. Lewis' fastest S1 time for the session was 19.906. The only way I figured him saying he was two tenths up made any sense was if the S1 time for the previous fast run was around 20.1s...

It was mentioned by the announcers that get real time for the sectors that Lewis was 5 tenths up on the first sector to Nico's pole lap. That's 5 tenths on the FIRST sector. The entire weekend Lewis was leaving stuff on the table in order to not have Nico's engineers go over where he's losing time to Lewis.

Doesn't matter, it won't happen again I'm sure. Nico will be enjoying the Monaco pole and win for the rest of the season!

On the UK feed Brundle said that Lewis had more-or-less matched Nico, and the official timing supports that case rather than this five tenths.
