Oh. So they'll surely all say that it's on safety grounds that they have to copy the Merc engine won't they?

That change (the turbo portion) would neither be safer nor less costly.

Let's refer to the 2013 season, when the tires were changed on "safety" issues, for a moment.
Red Bull was caught on the back "wheel", not having taken the tires into consideration when
designing their car. "Suddenly" the tires aren't safe, which is still a thorn in my side, as it's
ridiculous to believe that Pirelli didn't test their tires "any which way but loose". Then, we
have Mercedes participating in a "private" tire test, and Pirelli insists on changing the tire
compound on "safety" issues, which benefitted BOTH Red Bull AND Mercedes, coincidentally.
THAT "safety" issue "cost" Ferrari, et al, a good season, in spite of having played by the rules
and designed their car based on the original/confirmed Pirellis.

Sounds like a broken record? Well, too bad, because it is what it is.

I really don't see Ferrari being slightly attracted to this concept.

Only if they understood how to build the engine that way.

Ferrari don't make their own turbo or components, they buy their turbo from Honeywell in the US. To replicate Merc they would have to take over the firm and make their own turbos. Or they would have to commission their own split turbo from Honeywell which would be like customer teaching the chef how to make their 'plat du jour'

They don't understand turbos let alone start inventing new ones, I'm sure at least some Ferrari fans are aware of this?

Ferrari really does need to cut this crap out.

ESPNF1 Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says changes to Formula One are needed to prevent it going into decline.

Bernie Ecclestone has expressed his concerns about the new formula and believes all the teams will get behind changes, including an increase in the fuel allowance. Montezemolo is among the most vocal opponents of the changes to the regulations this year and has highlighted fuel saving as one of his biggest concerns.

"We want to increase the value, the passion, the success of Formula One," the Ferrari president said. "Formula One is our life, so we have to look ahead, sharing with the other teams a good solution. I don't want to think of the decline of Formula One, and if we look at it today, we have a race that is no longer Formula One.

He said this sh*t before the race, I think the best course of action now (even for Ferrari) is to STFU and go home to sleep it of.

I understand where you and the other Mercedes/Hamilton fans are coming from; but, you also have to understand where Ferrari, et al, are coming from.
Most of us were up in arms, the last few years, with Red Bull/Vettel having few real competitors, yet, this year, it's ok that Mercedes doesn't have any?
Come on, we can't have it both ways.

Also, the quote states that di Montezemolo is AMONG, which means he is not alone, nor are there two, otherwise the author should use "between", so
let's not crap on him/Ferrari at every opportunity. It's unbecoming and unsportsmanlike!

F1 is much more entertaining. Because the mercedes boys are fighting for a championship. It is still entertaining. Especially with the rest of the pack.

Red Bull fighting a Force india. Williams fighting a Ferrari and a McLaren. A lotus fighting a sauber(and killing it as well). This is just better!

So... having different battles, up and down the grid, is more entertaining
than having more drivers fighting for the podium?

We have had Redbull, McLaren, Force India (and Williams had ample opportunity) on the podium in just 3 races, how many more drivers need to be involved?

Pardon me, I guess I should be more blunt, since being political hasn't done the trick.

So... having different battles, up and down the grid, is more entertaining than having more drivers fighting for the top two steps on the podium?

Better?

For the time being there's going to be one podium position open, unless one or both of the silver arrows falters, crashes or DNFs. So you're only going to have room for small group of contenders vying for that third step.

Heres a post by someone on SkySports, this says it all really

To those claiming that it is still boring with only Mercedes winning and how can it be good? I would like to take you all back to a time where a Team called Mclaren won 15/16 races. That time was 1988 and the car was the MP4-4. Remembered as one of the best F1 cars ever made. The drivers were Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. This combination created one of the best spectacles F1 has ever seen. The only reason Red Bull domination and Ferrari for that matter was boring, was due to the fact they designed the cars around one driver and didnt allow the 2nd driver to compete equally. With Mercedes we have the opposite philosophy. BRILLIANT STUFF!

Anyone seriously complaining that more drivers being in contention for the win makes a difference forgets what racing is really about

ONLY TWO CARS ARE REQUIRED FOR A RACE

Doesn't matter who's fighting for the top two steps, if they are racing one another for it it's more than good enough. Beyond that, you're looking at fanatism which isn't = racing. We're after all, racing fans first, correct?
