Snow makes for a soft landing....but nothing's ever risk free as Shumi has just proven. You just take the right precautions. You can have an accident crossing the road.
It's is beautiful, winter , summer, sun or snow.

That is so true RC, skiing is as dangerous as you allow it to be. Often the most dangerous part of a ski day, is getting to the resort.

BTW ... some nice pics. Your type of skiing (more of an alpine adventure) is very different from that found at my little resort. At Blue my day is more like a couple of hours of GS turns at warp speed, than a tour through the mountains. :coffee:

I imagine skiing in Canada/states is very different to the alps. I've toyed with trying it but that's unlikely now I've got the chalet. But I do love it here. I guess everything is larger than life over there, more remote. You can ski in the Alps for a whole day without doing the same run twice if that's your preference; circuses I think they're called. Resorts have links and you can do the whole circuit. For me three or four hours hard skiing is enough. Had a great day today! Details and pics after dinner :)

Today was very windy, blowing snow off some parts leaving icey patches......nearly blowing me off some parts!! I have to confess that sadly I'm more of a button skier than a Hamilton skier....I like the weather right and the track right, and then I can breeze along happily. However.....today I skied a black icey run and I found grip and kept my balance...it wasn't balls out Lewis style but I made it down.
Here's a few pics of today......

The first two are pics taken from the lift, I just pointed the camera behind me and this is what it took...

And this is me about to disappear over the edge down the steep icey black

The next one is taken from the inside of a teepee just outside a little tiny restaurant, you can go in the teepee to drink hot wine...which is exactly what I was doing! :D

And finally a shot from the fort at the top just where you ski over to Italy, it was very blowy up there today!

A good looking lady in a good looking place... gah the jealousy! :D

I laughed way too much at the "I'm a button skier" At least you weren't Luca Badoer style ;)

I wanna go up there and sit in the mountain cafe all day and keep warm drinking hot chocolate!

You could just ski from mountain restaurant to mountain restaurant if you wanted to...taking long breaks in each one. :coffee::drink::wine::beer:

Haha good idea RC!

But those transitions between restaurant I might freeze to death, I'd have to ski with a hot chocolate in my hand. (You picked three drinks I don't drink/don't like)

Do you get many kids where you are? I would think they'd be a bit annoying on the slopes.

Those were the only emoticons for drinks....I don't like beer either. You don't like wine!!!!!! :yikes:
Kids...there's always one or two but not many unless it's school holiday weeks( the French have three different feb half terms to help the ski resorts) and UK half term weeks as well of course. The worse thing is when they all come past in a long line following their instructor(ski school)They weave all across the slope and are best avoided.
If you picked your day and wore the right clothes you'd keep warm, especially as a beginner..that's hard work.

Ang the snow is wonderful, I love snow! But deep?.........not as deep as it really needs to be. Crisp? .....yes, well, in parts. Even? ....... Definitely not yesterday with all the wind, ivy patches and drifts!

We need a Red Bull & Monster energy drinks emoticons :P I HATE coffee and I don't really like wine, beer/ciders okay but I don't really drink alcohol.

Ahh one or two isn't bad, I'd be scared of going to fast one of them just start moving into my path ending with me crashing into them.
Similar to what happened to me last time I went ice skating, some stupid woman who was using the side to get round decided to push off into the path of me which was pretty close to the middle, I was going pretty fast and had to quickly change direction to avoid crashing into her and because of it I went flying onto my side, skidding along the ice into the barrier -_-

I've only been skiing once and that was with 30 other students from school like 7 years ago, because I hadn't been before they wanted me to start in the Novice group but they quickly realized I was a quick learner and within the first hour I was up with the top group as one of the best skiers (ballsier than the others), the weather was beautifully sunny when we went which was confusing because we didn't have to put much warm clothes on but the snow wasn't melting... I only got cold when we stood around or were in the town, I couldn't wait to get back to the lodges to warm up.

The one thing I struggled with was doing the side stops (turning body one) I'd turn and just end up falling over, idk if it was a weight to speed issue or something.

I really want it to snow here now, so more of this can happen:

Great pics!! WOW!! that snowman!!
Parallel turns and stops are all about weighting the downhill ski. It becomes instinctive. You should stick at it!! You sound a natural.

That snowman is our second tallest one, we made a taller one a few years earlier but that one was in the garden so no one could see, check what it looked like two days after (sun melted it fast!) http://i.imgur.com/mPZqXtA.jpg

Yeah, parallel stops were impossible for me, I was doing it how people were telling me but I kept falling over it was pretty embarrassing. I can do it on ice, just not on snow
