I have no doubts he (Alonso) brake-tested Hamilton coming out of that particular corner. There is never that difference in acceleration in Formula One cars. Although there's really no point in investigating insofar as Hamilton and Alonso got no points and will not be battling one another for the title, I feel it's important to know what really happened and seeing the 99%-sure guilty Alonso punished.

Pat Symmonds has said he didn't brake-test Hamilton, has shown the telemetry to Autosport and they seem convinced. I really don't see Pat Symmonds being the kind of person to tell porkies about this sort of thing.

I think it was one of those bits of TV footage that for no particular reason is just plain misleading. Both Brundle and Blundell, drivers with 219 GPs between them, both thought it was a brake test, and they don't just invent these things, they must have had some justification. It's very rare to see a car simply drive into the back of another one so readily, so to conclude that it was probably a brake test is understandable, if ultimately the facts contradict it.

I was one of those who thought it was a brake test, so I hold my hand up. Case closed.

I too suspected a brake test but I respct Pat Symmons-he wouldnt lie, so yes I guess thats it then.

You know I was kinda sad when Massa passed Kubica before the first turn.

Ditto. I was half hoping Kubica would win.

As for the Alonso thing, I hope McLaren take it to the stewards although I don't think they will, as I'd love to know whether Alonso did deliberately brake test/not accelerate properly. I'm on the fence over what happened - and I'm not sure I buy DD's theory that Alonso was merely heavier on fuel. I'm sure there wouldn't have been *that* much of a difference?? The footage looks suspicious, but surely Alonso wouldn't have been so stupid as to pull a deliberate move, particularly as they can track everything that a driver does in a car, and also knowing that doing something like that is horribly dangerous?

Well, we know Alonso was pissed of with Lewis last year when Lewis did his "drunken drive" behind the safety car... so I wouldn't be surprised he did it (a bit) on purpose.

Sure his damage could have been greater than on LH's car, but then again he's not competing for championship this season anyway, and good old revenge might taste better than a point or two at the end of race.

That being said, at the end of a day I think it was LH mistake - even if FA helped him a bit. You can't just blindly follow ideal path and expect guy in front of you will behave exactly as you expect him to do. After all, even FA could have pressed wrong button on his steering wheel, had a gearbox glitch... anything out of ordinary.

The difference between BMW and the other teams is how their teamates treat each other. If you read any of their press releases after each race, the first that comes out of their mouths is either "I am happy for my teammate", "congratulations to my teammate" or "I am happy for our team today". Heidfeld and Kubica have said they work well together and they are focused on helping developing a young team into a championship caliber. Kubica should have placed 2nd but he said he had too much wheel spin and on the second lap he hit oil and lost time, as for Heidfeld, he is so underated, he's done nothing but being consistent, and when you have two drivers that is consistent, it rubs off on the team. I believe the BMW F1.08 is faster then the Ferrari, they just need to get the setup right and they should be fighting with Ferrari by mid season.

You could not have said it better. I agree that Heidfeld is underrated, the media seems to put him in Robert's shadow. Anywho the pair work extremely well together, and I could not be more happy for them. Ferrari were a little faster at Bahrain, but there will be a track where BMW is faster overall, we just need to wait.
