I just watched Ted's note book he spent the whole program talking to the head Renault engineer at the circuit.

Some good gems of info where thrown out. The biggest for me was the MGU H is a 2013 style KERS attached to the Turbine spindle.

It harvests when wastegate (a dump valve) is activated and then applies power to spin the Turbo up so it reduces turbo lag.

An MGU K (KERS of old) will cost over 1 second a lap.

MGU H failure will mean a 5 second turbo lag.

Yeah, I just watched this. Man there is a lot going on in these power trains this year.

There are going to be a lot of breakdowns this year. I'd hate to be driving a car powered by a unit with dodgy power recovery systems.

You missed a lot then. As he went and did ten mins in the paddock afterwards. Off Topic, Ted was saying that Eric Boullier is the least 'McLaren' type person, and there were 1000 other people in the paddock that were more McLaren than Eric. I'd be interested in what he means by that.

As long as he produces results and sticks to Rons mandate, Im sure no one will mind if he doesnt polish the floor of the garage or have his tie on straight, or does Ron speak.
He will soon drop some of the usual French habits as well

Having heard a fair bit of the new engine notes, I've got to say how bitterly disappointed I am in the new sound of F1. Simply looking at people standing on the edge of the track without ear-plugs --- urgh! The sound is so disappointing compared to last years and not a patch on those blessed V10s.

Having said all that, and you can definitely discount this comment because I am Tifosi :D but I find the Ferrari engine the best out there. Especially on the downchange - big difference there.

I agree with that, I do prefer the Ferrari to the Mercedes and I'm not going to comment on the Renault until they sort all their problems, because at the moment every Renault car sounds damn weird. I do prefer these to the V8s, but like yourself I think the V10s were miles better.

I don't have a preference, they all sound lame. The Renault sounds funny, like someone's got a serious chokehold on it and making it perform at the same time.

Man when they showed the 2013 footage I was like "hey it's F1!!" lol....seriously, I wonder if this new sound will ever grow on me.
