Can't think of any where the song was destroyed by a remake, but one remake that needed to happen was Sweet Dreams, from Eurythmics to Marylin M. He coked it up and then some.

Alphaville's "Forever Young" has been covered many times, but IMO, the original is just the best.

I can't think of any remakes I like better than the original. There must be some I'm sure, but the only one that comes to mind is Eric Clapton's "unplugged version of Layla. Does that count?

Someone did a cover of a nirvana song that kept getting played on the radio last year that made me so angry every time.
