More likely there was no point. If they found Alonso had lifted and impose some form of penalty from this race, it wouldn't affect the race outcome from McLaren's point of view for either driver (ie no more points than they currently have). It also just stirs up a whole hornets nest again, and I'm sure McLaren want to put the politics of last season behind them. Which is a shame really...yeah, I want to put the politics behind us, but it means no-one's ever going to agree about what Alonso did or didn't do in the incident!
mclaren may have not protested because they thought it was legit
