Totally agree, as I have family/friends who have done that.
The "difference" being that they felt they were marching to
their own drum and not that of a taskmaster.

Agreed. I don't have a problem working the holidays if I'm building my own dream and not somebody else's

For a lot of people, that makes all the difference in the world.

I have to say, I really hate it when people look at a business and
say "Wow! What a gold mine!"!! My response is always "Would
you put in the hours, the collaterol, the energy to make this work?"
Invariably, there is silence in response...

Well you put so much time and effort into something and it goes of like a wet squib, you need to pick yourself up and move on.
