Saying as we have a thread about folk's favourite music, I thought I would ask about something that particularly interests me (A can feel a series of this type of thread coming on). Simply, what are you favourite authors, novels, poems, pieces of drama etc.? (And it can be from any literature in the world - English, French, Latin, Greek etc. - from Dickens to J.K. Rowling)

There's that many I like, but I will get the ball rolling by declaring I'm a big fan of Samuel Beckett's work, in fact, Krapp's Last Tape/La dernière bande found pretty daunting. A poem which made me feel physically ill was Wilfred Owen's Mental Cases. A book I'm going through at the minute at university is Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. I would say it would be a good read for some professional footballers (those who attempt playing real football  ), but I don't think they could manage it. An audio book may be required.

To Kill a Mockingbird was a really great book. We had to read it in school for our English GCSE coursework. I wasn't expecting it to be as good a read as it actually was, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a good book. :)

One of my favourite books of all time is Jane Eyre - I think it's the only book I was forced to read at school that I actually enjoyed. I also like Hemingway's six word story ;) I also love Joseph Mitchell's writing - it's such a shame he didn't write very much.

Currently working my way through LE Modesitt Jr's books at the moment (sci-fi/fantasy). He's one of the very few authors where I will actually re-read his books.

I liked Jane Eyre when I read it a while back. I'll probably be reading it again soon (either that or The Great Gatsby) the for purposes of comparing it with other texts, for at university I'm reading about the self in literature.

I did it for GCSE as well, only we sat an exam on it, in fact I can still remember my essay on Atticus Finch! Although I wouldn't put it into quite the same category as books by the likes of Dickens, Brontë and other household names, it's still a very good piece of work, and that it covers other themes as well as just racism will ensure it continues to be relevant for sometimes yet.

I'll read anything by Terry Pratchett

You know, I have three shelves on my desk full of Discworld novels, and I haven't ever read any of them. I keep meaning to, but there's just something about them that doesn't appeal to me much. I prefer novels with darker themes to them, I guess.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Now you're talking!! And the bad tempered ladybird also by Eric Carle, you read that one ?:D

Got Kite runner next in line, heard its very good. Anyone read anything by Orhan Pamuk?
Also has anyone read Helter Skelter? That book fascinates me in a really dark sort of macabre way.
Sons and Lovers
Tess
Harry Potter
Moomintroll
Front page of News of the world last Sunday
Loads of books i love, never got enough time to red them all
