Saying as we have a thread about folk's favourite music, I thought I would ask about something that particularly interests me (A can feel a series of this type of thread coming on). Simply, what are you favourite authors, novels, poems, pieces of drama etc.? (And it can be from any literature in the world - English, French, Latin, Greek etc. - from Dickens to J.K. Rowling)
There's that many I like, but I will get the ball rolling by declaring I'm a big fan of Samuel Beckett's work, in fact, Krapp's Last Tape/La dernière bande found pretty daunting. A poem which made me feel physically ill was Wilfred Owen's Mental Cases. A book I'm going through at the minute at university is Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. I would say it would be a good read for some professional footballers (those who attempt playing real football
), but I don't think they could manage it. An audio book may be required.
