Yep, it certainly makes Q less important than it has been. Also, with the single set of gear ratios, teams would be smart to spread their powerband. So, sacrificing some peak power to get a great spread to cover your inability to change gear ratios will also mean less peak performance.
F1 is being driven slower and away from leading edge technology as it strives to become more production car like and cheap.
