Its only a test, so they dont need all the containers they normally take. We know they can across continents inbetween back to back races. Ofcourse there will be logistical difficulties but in the high tech F1 world, when you got overnight airfreight, internet, hotelbooker.com, Fedex, everything is technically posible

if you have the money

yeah but this is all pre-planned, when you only have 7 days to organise, package, ship, receive and set all this up then that's a problem I can see.

Maybe its just a coincidence then that its the richest teams and the teams at the top of the grid that are able to make it

Or the teams with the most personel, and therefore the organisational and admin capacity to ship some 50 people and cars/tools/spare half way across the world with less than a weeks notice?

Same thing, most resources

Which is why in season testing was stopped to save money for the teams, and which is why this proves that any increase in in season testing merely widens the gap between those that can afford to send everything over at short notice and those that cant.

lets assume the test brings a 1 sec advantage for those that go, then we have defined why spending restriction in terms of track testing works as a leveler amongst the teams.

And therefore any team lobbying for a return to unlimited testing for example is not subscribing to the theory of cost capping as a way of encouraging more competition amongst the teams

Why dosen't FOM put a plane on for all the teams?

This made me laugh

Already the amount of transport required for a season of Formula One racing has been described, only half-jokingly, as being not dissimilar to that needed for a medium-sized military campaign.

I hope this is'nt a hopeless decision by mclaren, given that the tyres have changed seasons, maybe they and the other teams will build a car for what they think the tyres are gonna be like, but RedBull Merc and Ferrari will build a car around the tests information.
#384098
It can only make their sim better not worse plus give young Mag some track time. The last test he did was mostly raining IIRC. After all the fuss about tyres last season how can Mclaren afford to miss extra track time with new tyres

For the top teams its a no brainer, Ferrari wont even send their race team - more likely it will be the test team that did the 2011 car test earlier this season. I think I also read its a good chance for De La Rosa to get some laps for simulator and windtunnel to car correlation tests.

Yeah they should have sent Mag for a few laps in the 2013 car. Unless their new car is gonna be radically new like last years.

Rosberg to test for Mercedes in Bahrain

Mercedes has announced that Nico Rosberg will drive its car at all three days of the Pirelli test in Bahrain this week.

The test is set to get underway on Tuesday with Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull and Toro Rosso on track to put Pirelli's 2014 tyres through their paces. The teams will be allowed to bring 2013-spec cars but the run plans will be dictated by Pirelli as they gather data for next season.

"Busy week ahead for the team both here in Brackley and out in Bahrain," Mercedes tweeted. "We will have @nico_rosberg driving all three days of the Pirelli test in Bahrain this week."

Ferrari has announced Pedro de la Rosa and Marussia's Jules Bianchi as its drivers over the three day test, while Red Bull is planning to use test driver Sebastien Buemi and Toro Rosso intends to run Jean-Eric Vergne and new signing Daniel Kvyat. All the teams were invited to the test but only four decided to take up the opportunity.

Interesting. All teams invited, only four RSVP'ed. Are these four simply the most 'generous' in terms of wasting time and resources for Pirelli's benefit....or do they think they'd get an advantage? Clearly the rest (ones with money) don't think so.

Note that if they DO get some kind of benefit, Redbull again gets double input...thanks to free behind the scenes file sharing between mother and daughter team.

Dumb question of the day: Shouldn't that be father and son?

It looked odd to me as well, but I've heard the term 'sister team' many times....so I figured F1 teams are feminine subjects. :P
