Mclaren didnt dump Sergio because Button scored a few more points
Sergio outperformed Button later in the season, chances are it would have continued the next year as he settled in.
Sergio was closer to Button than Kimi was to Coulthard in his first season
Sergio was closer to Button than Hekki was to Lewis in his first season
Sergio was brought in as 'an unfinished article' to be groomed by Whitmarsh, performance wise he warranted a second season

Sergio had to go because McLaren gambled on Telmex becoming title sponsor not just a driver sponsor, that didnt happen and Force India quite rightly didnt want to know about Mag when Whitmarsh was trying to play the senior statesman trick because Force India needed a pay driver but also one with experience to help them in 2014 instead of an unproven rookie, so they held out played Whitmarsh and will probably get Sergio instead of Mag. (Why would Whitmarsh think FI are gonna listen to him when they will no longer be tech partners as they are the Merc B team now not Mclaren)

McLaren were probably then left with a choice, Sergio with some sponsorship or mag with some sponsorship(Danish firm Jack and Jones). next year is a transition year and so a good year to try the rookie.

if this was Rons McLaren theyd probably have ditched button as well and tried the other rookie or even got someone experienced and with potential - Hulk

Thats how I see it, and next year will be a write off, already Whitmarsh is saying he is not convinced the Merc lump is gonna be the competitive - paving the way for excuses next year as the team (rightly) get ready for Honda in 2015 and a proper star driver again

Because Whitmarsh cant part with button.

I think you only need to look at the WDC standings to see why Button was kept on rather than Perez.

I'd say that's a bit expected with the new guy in the team vs. someone who's been there for several years.

and on the news about Lotus and Maldonado.......

YYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! BLAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA SMOKE SOME WITH YER DAWG, EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!

I don't like the guy one bit (he even looks like he just broke out of prison) but I think he's got some talent and speed. If he can curb the recklessness out, it could be an interesting partnership.

I still tip Grosjean to kick his ar$e next season but IF (its a big if) the Psycho can tame himself a bit and not think of his car as an M16, the points standings will be close.

Grosjean will kick his arse easy. Then mal LOL. (I Nearly wrote Malvolio ) Maldonado will drive into him.

I'll never understand it. The guy is a total moron and is absolutely dangerous.

And here I thought Geet had some good taste :(

We just got live reactions of Maldonado's confirmation at Lotus...

I highly doubt Lewis and Nico would find this news funny.....it just brings Mr Convict much much closer to them at the sharp end of the grid.

I think Lotus will be the new Williams next year. Languishing around in 9th place in the championship. Their lack of funding and weaker line-up is what suggests that to me...
