As it means Lotus are now likely to make the grid next year. This is the reality of F1 today every team except Ferrari, RBR and Merc have had to make driver decisions with finances in mind above performance.

This leaves PDR out of a seat, some people may not like him, but we can all agree that it's a shame to see a driver with talent ousted by a driver with dosh (As Hulk moves back to FI as he wanted Lotus, but couldn't, and Sauber are getting a second pay driver; and Fi seem defiant on keeping Mr. Sutil for reasons that are beyond me).

The problem I see is why didn't McLaren just hire Di Resta instead of Magnussen? I mean,I get it that Magnussen has risen from McLaren's Drivers Program and that, but I don't take faith in the fact that he will do well because if anything, I have a feeling he'll be the team's achilles heel. Di Resta at least has experience and is a great driver, they should've have him the chance to be honest...

I'm not sure they'd have gained anything by taking Di Resta over Perez. And it wasn't that they were unhappy with Perez, they wanted to keep button and Perez and run Magnesun because some other team ( who Whitmarsh won't mention) reneged on a verbal agreement to take him, so they decided to run him themselves which left Perez out in the cold. Because Whitmarsh cant part with button.


But I take the point that Di Resta looses out to the likes of Maldonado is not good, a sad state of the sport.
