You are right, I missed it the first time. Yes that makes sense. I realise the dailies sensationalise and twist thinks but I didn't think they'd outright lie.
Whitmarsh has had four years hasn't he? I can't believe he went on holiday for his first race as TP ...and turned his phone off!!
that is not true, He was at Melbourne, i saw him there myself.
Well I must admit I found that unbelievable. I seem to remember I thought I hear his voice on he radio as well during the overtaking Trulli fuss. Someone's got the wrong end of the stick then.
He must have been there for the race but probably scarpered straight after, switched his phone off and left Ryan to face the music. I remember thinking it odd that it was the sporting director who was most senior around and took the blame
So it seemed then that it was planned that way, now sounds like it was just a lame duck switching his phone off to avoid responsibility
edit: in fact thats what the article does say, but worded to sensationalise some moreWhitmarsh, 55, has not won a world title since taking over from Dennis at the beginning of 2009. He made a terrible start by being away on holiday with his telephone switched off following his first race in charge as the furore over Lewis Hamilton misleading the stewards blew up.

You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.
