I will preface this thread as saying that I grew up as a child having espresso couple of times a day whenever my parents made some. I love coffee but will only drink it if it's either French press (raw sugar and half & half) or some type of espresso variant from my coffee shop, macchiato or breve macchiato. I don't OD on it, mostly just get my "fix" twice a day. I have a burr grinder and grind about every other day just to keep everything fresh and a stainless steel double walled Bodum French press that would literally survive a nuclear blast it's so well made.

I drink various loose leaf green teas, but for me the tea drinking is primarily in the winter or for stress reduction. Although I get more pleasure from a cup of coffee, I get my serenity from sipping into a hot mug of tea feeling the steam on my face.

Peet's French roast is the best store bought roast I've come across.

Coffee and tea are serious business, the only thing I take more seriously than wine and cheese pairings.

Well WB, I'm with you. I approach coffee the way most people look at wine or beer (love beer too). I tend to go in streaks with coffee, but for the most part it is the press for the morning cup and espresso based drinks after that. Yes, I do break the Italian rule of "No milk In The Coffee After Breakfast".

Peet's is not available in Canada, so I experiment alot with beans for the press. My preference is Afican coffee's, in particular those from Ethiopia, however buying the trendier beans does not always fit into my budget. My fall-back coffee is Eight O'Clock Bokar Blend, a dark roast. Like you I only use raw sugar, but prefer milk to cream. At present I am at a loss for a good ground (no burr grinder yet)) espresso, that doesn't break the bank.

I am fortunate to live in a resort, so there are several good coffee shops nearby and not all are Starbuck's. You know it is almost 2:00 P.M. here. Time for an afternoon latte! :coffee:

Grand cafe noir...every time! Tried to jack it in to no avail, so a cafetiere every morning just to set the day off. No sugar no milk. After about 6pm, it has 2 be decaf, unless Im exhausted, I'm not good at sleeping.
I've always hated tea, the British way with milk in.......but after gaining Chinese connections, I like their tea! especially OOlong..no milk, no sugar! And I like the flowery teas, rose petal and Chrysanthemum. But every time I default to coffee!

I love tea. All kinds of tea. In my cupboard currently, I have:

  • English Breakfast
  • Russian Caravan
  • Spiced Chai
  • Lapsang Souchong
  • Assam
  • Ceylon
  • Sencha
  • Oolong
  • Earl Grey
  • Gunpowder
  • Jasmine
  • Rooibos (okay, so it's not really tea...)

I do like coffee quite a lot, too, but nowhere near as much as tea. :P

It has been long thought that recurrent kidney stone formers should avoid the intake of coffee and tea, as they both contain varying amounts of oxalate. It was also thought that the use of caffeinated beverages would lead to a relative degree of dehydration and increased kidney stone production. It has now been shown that the amount of oxalate in coffee and tea is actually relatively low and that caffeine affects a particular hormone in the kidney (antidiuretic hormone) in such a way that it leads to production of a more dilute urine thereby decreasing the risk of kidney stone formation. The data currently suggest that drinking a single 8 oz. cup of coffee per day can decrease a patient's risk of kidney stones by approximately 10%, while with tea, the rate drops by 8%.

You know 2-3 cups of tea a day is fine, some people are really addicted to it....really bad for you, tea is, if you drink tonnes, not to mention coffee, that's worse...actually on the subject of coffee, I think I'll make one right now!

I love espresso; but, espresso doesn't love me, as it gives me a horrible case of heartburn!
So, unless I'm out with friends and order a cappuccino, I usually stick to tea!

Hey, there, operaman!! I'm from T.O., too!! Just wondering if you've tried Lavazza?
We have a Gaggia, so we get the beans; but, I believe they also sell it ground!
