Well, maybe if spankyham would quit posting all of Ferrari's technical updates and explaining their details in this forum (where all the other big technical bosses are lurking), they might do better. :P:P

The problem is they obviously aren't that advanced since Spanky is able to explain them

I really thought that Ferrari would take at least one of the championships away from Red Bull this year given their fantastic start, but with the bad luck results in some races, and the being caught on their back foot in other races, they're relying on Alonso's magic to come through the field time and time again, and that's just not enough to do it when dealing with the strength of Red Bull.

Massa has been floundering and is struggling a lot in qualifying which mean he's got to drive even harder to get through the filed and he's not Alonso. Given the way things are going if Mercedes manages to come to grips with their tire situation, It's possible to see Mercedes finishing second in the WCC.

Merc is definitely one of the teams that can win races, and for sure, they are in with a chance to win a title this year. Their strength this year is they have an ultra competitive car and two drivers capable of winning and putting in good performances.

I don't think we will see Ferrari or Lotus showing great strength unless Pirelli change their mind set and start really using the super softs and softs.

They can finish on podiums yes. But I don't think they can stand on top. Canada shows that, the pack catches up.

Alonso conceded Ferrari needs to find more pace.

"It's almost the first time I remember that one of us is out of Q3 and the other is 10th," said Alonso. "We have to improve.

"We have to stay calm more than ever now things are not going well, just like when things are going well we don't have to get over-excited."

Alonso admitted his main target for the race was to gather an many points as possible, a goal he labelled as 'sad'.

"We'll try to get as many points as possible," he said. "It's a realistic goal, probably a sad goal, but we need to try to get as many points as possible.

"We have been doing poorly so far, but maybe tomorrow it will be better."

Massa also admitted Ferrari had gone backwards since the previous race.

"I think the car is not working like before," said Massa. "In Montreal the car was quick in the race, and even in qualifying the pace was better than what we have here.

"It was definitely more competitive there, so that's the biggest worry. I hope everything changes tomorrow and we see a competitive car in the race."

Ferrari have 2 big issues to overcome...their development 'pace' and Massa. Both are not at Ferrari standard at the moment and they're never going to win anything with just 1 star driver. The Massa part is easy to overcome...give him the boot after this weekend and start looking for a better driver who still knows how to drive. Their development pace....well, that's a bit more complicated. Maybe they could 'rent' a few guys from Mercedes. :hehe:

Mercede's have been worse than Ferrari at development in recent years, it's Rebull where the pace is at.

Ferrari should just go for 2014, maybe they can make engines better, no way are they going to get the pace advantage over Redbull to overcome the points gap, but the team has too much pride over professionalism and won't admit it.

Massa is probably due to go, bring on the Hulk. Surely he could have guessed at the relative pace of Sauber and Force India when he left, hopefully he went so Ferrari can stare at him.

You can't gauge Mercedes' development pace in the past 3 years when the team were just a mess. This is the FIRST chassis which has been developed by just 1 technical director...and the reason why I say Ferrari could get a few from Merc is simply because they have quite a few to spare. :P

Well, I don't think they want Alda Costa back, the team kicked him out first, then he went to Mercedes.

I don't know what Alonso did to Vettel's transmission, and I don't want to know. Or well, how, maybe it's the start of something. . . that car was nowhere, it barely made up places in the race Massa's mario kart boost start notwithstanding, did you see him go go go?

Still, Alonso made up some great places at the start as always, guy is the epitome of the clean overtake.

A really cool shot of the F138's gearbox - very neat indeed. It's hi-res so click on it to see it at full resolution.

If not Hulkenburg i'd like to see Di Resta in the Ferrari - has had a very solid season at Force India and 3 times in a row has recovered from team errors in qualifying to score points!

In my opinion, he has been the "star in a reasonably priced car" (from a famous car show ;) ) this season

Nah, Hulkenberg beat Di Resta when they were team mates. I think the Force India generally has shown pretty good pace, hence Di Resta's performances, rather than anything special by him.
