I'm not totally sold on the "Honda were outstanding" thing. My evidence?
First session: 11th & 15th
Second session: 11th & 14th
third session: 7th & 16th
Qualy one: 7th & 12th
Qualy two: 11th & 13th
Fastest lap: 8th out of 17 (Jenson didn't set a time of course)
The picture I get is of a thoroughly midfield team, albeit that they've improved from last year. Back in 2006, which I would remind you was viewed as a reasonably disappointing year for them pace-wise, they took pole position and 3rd driver Davidson topped the first two Friday sessions. Look at it that way and they're pretty much no further forward than they were in 2005 and 2006, and way back from their 2004 successes. For a company like Honda that's not good enough, but at least they're moving in the right direction now.
Their qualifying pace was good enough to be considered outstanding when you look at last year's performance. And for us Honda fans, we'd like to be a lot better than last year. Judging by the final test in Jerez and this weekend, we're set to at least score points consistently. And to be a 'thoroughly midfield team' for this year would make me happy.

Are you joking? yeah well done lewis but p-lease Kimi made a mistake? he would of took your two little 'rookies' downnn!! there's no doubt about it!!!! so don't start writing us off now, with the aero package, and the overall power of the engine, your going to be number 4 & 5 and maybe even lower than that?
Alonso is coming back into town, he faught of your driver hands down
Barichello & Button have a new amazing car, and barichello would have come 3rd, not threw stratergy but threw the overall power of the car
Kubica would have took pole without a doubt if he didn't make a mistake on that corner
Rosberg, a Fantastic driver, and a Champion in the future!! Williams have got it this season so watch out!
& do i need to say any more about Ferrari?
1st Last he was up to 8th!!! and then was 3rd in no time?? This weekend is gonig to proove all you McLaren Fans that you shouldn't jump in the deep end before you can swim?
Your all going downnn! and there's no doubt about it!!!
& Lewis Got Driver of the day
nooo!! he did what any driver could do with a McLaren! Rosberg should have driver of the day!!
I Think Many of the Ferrari boys would Agree
& All the People that believe Lewis got off......' Lucky '
J.
Okay, firstly, you're being silly. Kimi cocked up, plain and simple. It doesn't make him any worse, he just had a couple of moments under pressure. Every driver has done that and will continue to do that. Even the greats of the past did it. The only reason that Kimi managed to get to third was because of all the cars dropping out. At the first corner, he made up several places because I think four or five cars were taken out in that accident and Massa had a spin. Then the safety car helped him get up to third. If this race hadn't had so many retirements, Kimi probably would've finished exactly where he did anyway, because there are some drivers that would have given him a hard time when he came to overtake them. His car was certainly better, but people like DC, Mark Webber, Jenson, Vettel and Trulli would've put up one hell of a fight, and we saw Rubens hold him off for an age.
I'm not disputing the pace of the Ferrari cars, and no doubt we will see it in Malaysia. But Melbourne was a nightmare for them not only because of engine trouble, but because their drivers were trying too hard and making mistakes that they shouldn't have been.
Also, when you say that Alonso fought off Heikki, the Finn overtook him and looked set to stay ahead until he hit the pit lane speed limiter. Alonso got lucky. He drove well enough in the race, but that last lap was luck more than anything and I don't think that Kovalainen will make that mistake again.
Finally, I don't agree with the people who say Lewis was driver of the day at all. He didn't do anything spectacular, in my opinion. His race was simple because both Kubica and Kovalainen were struggling to match his pace in the early stages, though Kovalainen was carrying a much heavier fuel load. I don't know what happened to Kubica. But for me, I have two drivers of the day, really, and one special mention. The first is Bourdais who, amongst all that carnage, kept his cool and drove a good race up to fourth, where he was holding off Alonso and Kovy. He would easily have kept that position if his engine hadn't let go. The second is Rubens Barrichello. Despite being disqualified, something good has happened to him. He finished in the points. He's shown that he's capable. When Rubens is happy, Rubens is motivated. And when he's motivated, he can win races. Not in an RA108 unless the circumstances are extra special (I.E. a few front-runners drop out and conditions might not be the best) but he can still do it. In the RA108, he'll get points. He may even get a podium, but that won't be easy and probably won't come until people start making big mistakes ahead of him.
And the special mention goes to Timo Glock who, after being off the pace in testing, showed that he could match Trulli's speed this weekend and drove a nice race up until he crashed out.
