So now the only reason Lewis left Mclaren is because of Button.

I think Lewis left Mclaren because Lewis wanted to leave McLaren. There's been a lot of great drivers over the years that have done the same, so nothing that Lewis did is that out of the ordinary.

I do think however that if he'd been in a WDC battle in Brazil along with Vettel and Alonso, he would have stayed.

According to Whitmarsh, Lewis signed for Merc the day after the Singapore GP. His comment about that was "It's never a good thing to make your decision after a bad race"....I mean wtf Whitmarsh, Hamilton had his PICK of bad races to choose from get a freaking clue!!

According to Whitmarsh they could have kept Lewis but chose not to. Go figure. Corporate interests I guess... it's like BP saying they're conscientious about environmental safety.

I thought the "we chose not to" , take on the situation was accredited to Mr. Dennis, after the event of course.

Whitmarsh was honest that McLaren lost Lewis. Didn't actually say it but his words were all around it. And Big Ron didn't like it and publicly went on record to lie about what happened...protecting McLarens image I guess...and their screw up in losing the better driver and having the worst driver line up of the top 3 teams hands down, heading into 2013.

I don't even think Ron would lie. I believe in his integrity. I just don't think he could accept that Lewis chose to leave, and it was his way of dealing with it, of still feeling in control. Bit ostrich head in sand if you like.

If you like, lie without knowing it. It's a surefire lie...since McLaren put down offer after offer and Lewis finally gave them the finger. Whitmarsh said "Lewis made a mistake leaving", not "We made a mistake letting him go".

Then Big Ron goes on record to emphasize that McLaren is bigger than Lewis. I mean, I'm not blaming Ron Dennis...he's doing what a person in his position would do to assist the company image and position on the matter.

Oh yes, it's clearly an untruth, but borne of an inability to accept the truth not by a desire to deceive.

If he was given an offer and chose to leave, then he left. The question is could Mclaren of offered him more?

Well maybe they could, but that's assuming he was moving purely for money, which he wasn't.

How do you know it wasn't just for money?

Lewis has said so.

Maybe he did move just for money, maybe he didn't. What difference does it make since no one can prove it either way. Merc offered something more lucrative than McLaren which is why he left, end of story.
