Ferrari would be better off looking forward rather than acting like a spoilt brat and sulking.

I disagree with you and Bernie - Ferrari have only sought to clarify the situation.

I've seen a number of comments these last few days, some even suggesting we accept Vettel as three times World Champion despite what might have happened on track. Such thinking is absolutely ludicrous and makes me question how such people, fortunately not on here, respond to other news stories, perhaps with "leave Jimmy Saville alone, he did a lot for charity, don't let touching a few kids spoil it"...

There has simply been a suggestion a driver overtook another under yellow flags, and another competitor has requested clarification on what actually occurred. Ferrari are in their right to do this, even after the fact, under FIA regulations. I hope, given what I've seen, that Vettel is admonished and we can all concentrate on bemoaning V6 engines instead.

However, should Vettel be found guilty, he should be correctly punished irrespective of the existing result. Rules are there for a reason and apply to everyone, whether newly crowned triple World Champion or not.

Well said, at NO point did Ferrari confirm they were making an official protest. They were responding to something that had been brought to their attention.

I think there's another important point to be considered here.

As has been mentioned often, it would be very bad publicity for the sport if the championship was decided by a penalty. This makes it possible (note for the paranoids out there, I'm not saying "likely") that the stewards would take a light touch concerning penalties at the decider. Looking into whether or not this happened is an important concept.

It's like the discussion earlier in the year where drivers overtook completely off the track and weren't penalised. If that's the status quo, then other drivers would simply take advantage of the slack enforcement of that rule. I.e. other drivers would simply overtake off the track and there would be mayhem.

This is in addition to the previous comments I've made that if the lack of enforcement (only if there was an actual overtake under yellows which was certainly unknown for a while) was due to steward incompetence, then this needs to be raised as an issue and addressed.

Even if there's no intention to appeal this year's championship, it's important to look at this very carefully for those two reasons. So that whatever happened (if anything) is handled better in future years. This is similar to what happened concerning overtaking off the track. After there was controversy, the rule was tightened for future races. And nothing was done about the incorrect rulings in previous races.

Even if there is no actual incorrect ruling or lack of action, I think it's important that teams, and even the press and the public, let the stewards know that they are watching, and that stewards should be careful to do their jobs properly.

Is there anyone out there who would claim that there has never been an instance when the stewards dropped the ball?

Domenicali: Ferrari never wanted to diminish Vettel's title triumph

He's right, they never wanted to diminish Vettels title triumph - they wanted to totally destory it! I mean, what do they think questioning the legality of Vettel's race is going to do? Arrognat :censored: !:banghead:

Eitherway, despite Ferrari's best efforts, the 2012 Championship is now over!

Arrogant? For checking? If they were arrogant they would of outright protested.

Arrogant for them expecting us to not see what they were up to.

What, confirming that they didn't lose out on the championship because someone cheated?

Okay, so this thread is being retired. Ferrari said it's done, the FIA say it's done, Bernie says it's done, nothing needs be rehashed, any remaining discussion can be taken up in the Brazil GP thread. So, now as far as this forum is concerned, it is over.
