If Alonso does end up with the title then Webber should fall on his sword and state he cheated somehow. Webber DSQ in Sao Paulo, Vettel back to 7th, WDC back to RedBull... simple.

Christian Horner, if you are reading this and wish to employ me for further 'tactics' my email address is...

In the unlikely event they will give him a retrospective penalty it will be 25 seconds added to his race time. Seeing as the race finished under the SC he would go back to the very last lead lap car.

I posted the video earlier in the race thread; and it does look like Vettel did overtake under yellow flag conditions, maybe my eyesight is failing me but I don't see the marshall waving a green flag.

Either way, I wouldn't like to see the title decided using the "Apple Method", it'll make a mockery of the whole season!

All I can say is, as a Tifosi, I know exactly how devastating it is to loose a championship on a decision made weeks after the event... 1976 was a long time ago but it still pains me to think about it

Im sure the FIA has full hd footage of that, and they can make out if there was a marshall there waving a flag. But ferrari will contest that he was still under yellow with the lights on his dash.

I am not really a Vettel fan, and was rooting for Alonso to win the championship, but these drivers are not stupid, I am sure they pay attention to every detail, so he figured he would make the pass right at the earliest opportunity for him to do so after the flag. It was still early in the race so it wasn't like he was tired and not paying attention.

I think this might change the rules for 2013 or so..

Pretty clear here:

The eyes see what the eyes wanna see. That grainy image with a circle highlighting a blob on the edge of the track is far from conclusive.

I think everyone of us here have agreed that no-one wants the season to end like this, so let's hope it all blows over.

Even if some people don't see a green flag, logical deduction tells us there was. There must be a flag being waved at that marshall post at that point, regardless of color.

If the yellow zone was to be conintued, yellow must be waved as a repeat there.
if the yellow zone was to end, a green flag must be waved to signal the end of yellow.
Basic marshalling rules on any track.

Certainly it should be clear (also comparing footage of when there was a yellow flag) that the marshall post did not wave yellow at that moment.

Yeah, you've got some good points - but at the end of the day, I don't think any of this matters - come next week, Vettel will still be WDC.

Something else Ive noticed - which I think is very telling.

Nowhere have I seen any official statement from Ferrari saying they are making an appeal, or even considering it. Ive not seen any official statement from FiA saying they are reviewing it.

All Ive seen is a BBC article, based on a YouTube video posted by a viewer at home. In this BBC article they have no quote from Ferrari, that I can see, and only a "No Comment" from FiA.

So I think we may be getting our panties in a twist over some lazy journalism......

Well, by rules the FIA must investigate such things when it comes to their attention. Even if they were snoozing, with the BBC flat-out asking them for clarification, it has been brought under their attention.

James Allen on Radio 2: (Paraphrasied) Priority is given to the flag, not the lights, he's confident that Vettel is in the clear.

Yeah, I dont think anyone disputes the flag is priority. Whats being disputed is, WAS there a flag...? I personally cant see it. And just because the Marshall SHOULD of been waving some sort of flag - doesnt mean he was.

Following a yellow, yellow/red or red flag, there must always be a follow-up flag at the next manned marshall post. Either to continue the ‘track situation’ (in this case, another yellow flag), or to end it with a green flag.
