What defines a driver as being a Ferrari driver?

I would have thought driving for Ferrari made one a Ferrari driver... :confused:


Apart from that. How is Schumacher not a typical Ferrari driver?


He was a complete machine and won five titles with them. How many other Ferrari drivers did that? ;)

Maybe that's why he was not typical

Winning must be the game, cos I never saw Schumacher as a typical Ferrari driver.......but he won. Gilles Villeneuve, Alesi, Ayrton , those to me were Ferrari drivers. ( I'm not even going near the current crop!)



Wait, Ayrton? He was a McLaren driver! I'm talking about the red/white McLaren which were a winning team, not the bunch of clowns we have today riding on a great name.

And for the rest of yous, I think she meant a driver who's passionate about the Ferrari brand and fluent Italian speakers. Schumacher was a German machine, efficient and a bloody good driver but you don't really associate him with Ferrari. This is my stab as to what rc might be saying...but could be completely off hook of course.

I thought all drivers a are passionate about Ferrari as it is the team they all want to drive for. And Schumacher is fluent in Italian, I believe.

No I didn't mean Prost. hammer and Denthul knew what I meant. Heart drivers. For me there are heart drivers and head drivers. Schumacher and Prost were head drivers. that's not to take anything away from head drivers. But the ultimate would be a heart driver in a Ferrari. That's it really. Ferrari, with all their history and passion have the opportunity to create the ultimate, but they need a heart driver. If they'd had Ayrton, Gilles or if Valentino Rossi had driven cars, that would have been it.

They can get in the way of the steering wheel and all those buttons on it.

Schumacher has a fair amount of heart, although yeah, he didn't generally drive like that.


I guess its more a matter of what kind of driver is successful now vs before. Teams will look for the drivers they need to win; and drivers will adjust to what the teams need. Its modern F1, the era with electric engines. Enzo is probably glad he's not here to see that.

Also, Grosjean could be very successful in an era with 6 cars on the grid.......
