It's Red Bull's earned space and they have to agree to relinquish it. They're at the top of the totem pole of the rest - all the others just move one down w/o much say. They already tried Renault, but I guess the bribe BE offered wasn't enough. And BMW Sauber's Mario Theissen wouldn't take any poo from BE anyway. Same with FW.

Just when we all had hoped as F1 fan's that the '08 season would be free of any 'insider politic's' by Bernie and the FIA, we as fan's are pulled back into the vortex that is BE's ego! I find Bernie's personal agenda reprehensible. He is slowly but surely bringing F1 down the drain and in a few year's it will be no better than CART if something is not done.

The only fact we have about McLaren's role in this is we don't know their involvement. It's unlikely McLaren were involved in my view.

Honestly, I don't know if McLaren were involved or not. I can see some of the bigger sponsors like Mercedes putting some pressure on someone, somewhere, to get better facilities, particularly with regards to hospitality.

To be honest, I don't think Mercedes would have had to say anything. They and some of McLaren's other sponsors have names which speak for themselves. Ecclestone was probably worried about this from the start. I'd personally be a little worried in his position. Imagine people from Vodafone and Mercedes not having an access to decent VIP facilities?! The FIA and Ecclestone should not have agreed this part of the punishment at the start. They now look like complete idiots (again).

I agree. There is no doubt he's done a lot for the sport, but it's now time to go. His greed has brought Formula One to the height it's at now, but now it's dragging the sport backwards.

It doesn't matter who ordered it, what matters is that it unfairly penalises 6 teams who were not found guilty of any wrongdoing (No we're not debating whether McLaren were in the wrong or not or how severe their penalty was) simply because they're smaller teams without as much pedigree with lesser known sponsors.

Frankly, the whole thing goes against the top brass's stated goal of helping the smaller teams. But then, we all know that's not really their aim at all, just a pretense to do as they will.

I'm assuming each of the affected teams were given something in return from Ecclestone, a financial reward or maybe they'll get a few stewards decisions in their favour. At the end of the day, it makes no difference to, say, Torro Rosso moving one place down the pit lane. The garages are roughly the same down there and they would have no access to the VIP facilities. Therefore, it was in their interests to accept Ecclestone's deal. The only team it affect big style was the team on the bubble, i.e. Red Bull, who I assume have got something worthwhile out of it. I'm not saying it's right, in fact, I think I think it's abhorrent from a moral point of view, but it doesn't really have a big effect in theory. Still, it makes the sport look dirty. Appalling.

I don't think it should be done, regardless of what the sponsors and Bernie think/want. They finished last in the WCC, therefore they should occupy the last garage in the pit lane. Red Bull rightfully finished fifth, so they should be in the fifth garage. It's not fair for Force India, who finished in the WCC ahead of McLaren (as Spyker, yes, but still) to be in the last garage.

Agree. At the end of a day, I don't mind if some of the crap FIA enforced lately backfires a bit up their... pockets?

McLaren got those points, yes, but when you get them (some of them anyway) by cheating, then you haven't earned them. So therefore it was an illusion so a big fat ZERO for punishment for cheating is more realistic. With that comes last place in the pits for the following season. It is clear "someone" from within is pulling someone's something so please never ever say that it is always Ferrari that does this as this time it has gone McLaren's way in a very injust and contraversial manner.

Supporters of McLaren will undoubtedly hold bitterness towards the FIA for various things. I wouldn't say I'm over the spy scandal per se, but I've moved on and am looking forward to next season. The McLaren staff did a sublime job last season in the face of so many things in 2007 and will want to give the two fingers to everybody at the FIA by having a great 2008. I'm sure bud is the same.
