A stupid idea, why can't the FIA stand by their rules that THEY made? This is just getting beyond a joke. I suppose they'll be handing out pole position to whoever dares to go out on track wearing a pink crash helmet and overalls next.

Maybe Red Bull (5th last year) hopes to get something out of its compliance - I wouldn't be surprised by a future announcement that the A1-Ring will feature again on the F1 calendar starting in 2010

Return of the A-1 Ring? Yes please! :D

It may be not as great as the fast but dangerous Osterreichring, but the A1 Ring was a good track, a bit underrated as well.

If they take the last pit stall maybe the venues will refab a little to allow more space for the high dollar sponsors. Then next year the last team will have a better than average paddock :D

I've not read anywhere about McLaren's involvement in this so I wouldn't be launching scathing attacks on the team just yet. To me, it just highlights the inconsistancy of FOM and the FIA to impose a ruling and stick to it. I don't agree with the penalty McL got last year, but if they got the penalty why start changing things now? How long till they're awarded the WCC for 2007....

Man, this isen't right. Last means last and that means you get the smallest pit-space... end off.

McLaren = Above the rules.
But then again I can't actually talk as the FIA are bumming Ferrari most nights....

... this sports gone tits up one reckons.

for me its not the teams, id expect mclaren to to try to not be at the back, just as id expect renault to try to get off the penalties last year and ferrari pursing the case against mclaren

its the powers in f1 that are to lame for teir inconsistencies! its only natural for the teams to pursue their interests!

I think it's more to do with Bernie, and McLaren probably won't say no to having a decent spot in the pit lane. This is the kind of thing that makes it impossible for me to follow the top teams, because this kind of thing happens. It would make me wonder, though, if the same would've happened if Williams, for example, had been caught cheating and kicked out of the WCC. They're a championship-winning team, but are their sponsors enough to warrant being given access to those areas at all costs?

We dont' know McLaren had anything to do with it and TBH can't see Ron Dennis asking for special treatment like this.

And Darwin - I wouldn't be surprised if there was something in it for Red Bull. Maybe they'll get some special points or something during the season too ;)

But surely, if Red Bull got something out of it, then all the teams behind them would as well? Because it isn't just RBR that are having to move down the pits a little - it's all the others.

Correct no blame can be set toward's McLaren from this initial press release. It's all Bernie at the moment. Time will tell though.

Exactly. Again we have some spurious and libelous anti-McLaren propaganda being spread by some folk. The only fact we have about McLaren's role in this is we don't know their involvement. It's unlikely McLaren were involved in my view. The people who should be taking abuse are Ecclestone and his acolytes, and Mosley's lot. Formula One continues to be a laughing stock. I say again, the FIA needs root and branch reform.

As for Red Bull, if they move up the grid a little and Formula One fever takes off in Austria, that coupled with Red Bull being a big company, we may well see Ecclestone showing an interest in the A1 Ring.

Honestly, I don't know if McLaren were involved or not. I can see some of the bigger sponsors like Mercedes putting some pressure on someone, somewhere, to get better facilities, particularly with regards to hospitality.

I would like to withdraw my comment saying that McLaren are above the rules....
