The iPad is a good pick up and use device but it does have it's drawbacks, even more so with iOS6; no Google Maps and no YouTube, the lack of Flash support doesn't matter so much anymore as the latest versions of Android also doesn't support Flash any more, you'll get more for your money with an Android based tablet in my opinion.

You get better value from an Android tablet for sure. But the Market place is like the wild wild west, compared to the app store. There's exponentially more harmful apps there. It's also not fair to say you don't get YouTube on an iPad it's just a downloadable app just like everything else.

I have to say though that after fooling around a week or two with a "phablet" I'm enjoying the format. I live on my phone, but I ALWAYS use a headset when talking, and do quite a bit of browsing on my phone, which even on a nicer screen phone it's still very limiting. So I've been using a Samsung Galaxy Note II and I'm loving the experience. Much more usable screen for browsing it's got a stylus which I haven't used yet for anything other than drawing apps but it works great and here's the capper.... it's got a 3100 MAH battery which makes it the longest lasting android device I've ever used, can go Friday night to Sunday night with normal weekend use for me!

I noticed the other day that a company was doing a galaxy ace and a galaxy tab for £20 a month.

TBH SWMBO has a galaxy ace and I think it is underpowered and slow. I think the HTC Sence makes a big difference.

In the appstore? I just looked again now and there is no official YouTube app on my appstore, loads of YouTube downloaders and playlist editors and such, but no App, at least not on the iPad 2.

You sure? I see it the under free aps, by google. You mentioned the other day you didn't see the tapatalk forum only app for $2.99 and now you can't see the YouTube app... Something is odd. I just checked on my iPad 2 as I wrote this.

I see just about every other Google app but no YouTube app, I found the $2.99 TapaTalk app; but the default one that was brought up by the forum was $4.99!

Thank you RC! Helping you choose this tablet, it appears we weren't very good at keeping the discussion from going over your head. In the real worl nothing matters as much as that first user experience. I think you made the right choice for you.

Agreed, as WB alluded to, at the end of the day it is horses for courses. Where as MOA and I prefer the less refined and restrictive Android (I think we are both setting fiddlers at heart) where as Apple is more refined and restrictive is ideal for non fiddlers who want a more pick up and go product.

I suppose it is almost like the Console v PC gaming arguments of old. (Plug and Play v it might work better it might work worse.)

Just to clear up the YouTube thing, there is an app for iPhone iOS6 devices, but as yet there is not an app for iPad with iOS6, but I did find an alternative for the iPad called Jasmine, it works pretty much the same, but the interface is different. As Jabberwocky said, it's a matter of preference, one is not better than the other despite what the fanboys proclaim!

Not the very new one. Is there an iPad 3 ? I think its that one. Its ordered form groupon and is about £350. The iPad 2 was about £289. I think the only difference is better screen resolution.
