For all your expert predictions

My own suggestion on the pool, i thought i might be good to predict the top 10 as now, but instead, you get points based on how close you are. 5 pts spot on, 2pts one place out, 1pt two places out. 5 pts for pole and fastest lap guesses. And perhaps on top just for kicks you have to predict two randomly chosen finishing places not in the top 10, e.g. predict who'll finish 14th, and 19th. So you'd have to predict things pre quali, which makes it a little more interesting... you could even expand to having to predict who'll get into Q3. The options really are endless. :hehe: .

Could anyone actually be arsed having to work out the points after each race though if we throw in all the extra ingredients? It'll also do little to attract newer players, who won't have a chance in hell of knowing what's going on...

I say leave it as it is, or risk killing it altogether.

I think they were planning to have an algorithm that does the calculations automatically, someone just needs to imput the results.

I think you can calculate these things in a spreadsheet, although MOA might have a different method in the current system. Whatever really, that is just my personal suggestion for an idea, i am sure whatever we use will be fun. :)

The way the system on the pool works right now is it's automatically calculated by a php script, based upon a flat file data system. All I do is input the picks and results, the script does the rest!

My feelings on what has been suggested is; let's not over complicate things, the simplicity of the pool is what makes it good and so competitive!

Fantasy F1 is another kettle of fish altogether; there is a lot of work involved which is beyond my coding skills, but I could certainly create the frontend template structure if someone could write the backend code to pull everything together. I could also host any Fantasy F1 League, I have php/mysql hosting with unlimited webspace.

Scotty you say the pool is all about picking the top three finishers, it's as simple as that.

I've not been able to do that all year long! :hehe: Maybe no one has! Deceptively simple I suppose.

That's the fun of it, it's a combination crap shoot and massacre all in one.

I never said the actual predicting was simple :P But yes, i think having accurate picks further down the order might be good too, especially in the midfield that is, as we know, oh so tough to read.

I definitely think bonus points for pole prediction would be good though.

Heh

Maybe not using the F1 scoring and doing something like 5 pts for a prediction in the right place, 2 pts for a prediction 1 place out and 1 pnt for a prediction 2 places out, with the places counted either direction. (or multiply the points the driver scored by those values)

Some interesting stats.... well I thought they where. I was playing around with the "how much do the drivers cost" I came up with 1st place 24pts, 2nd place, 23pts etc.... I did some other fiddling with the results, but the interesting thing is that as an average with the above system most expensive driver would turn out to be Kimi, could this be the tortoise and the hare year for F1?

Kimi Räikkönen 41.18589744
Fernando Alonso 41.02564103
Mark Webber 38.14102564
Sebastian Vettel 36.53846154
Nico Rosberg 35.25641026
Lewis Hamilton 33.49358974
Paul di Resta 29.6474359
Felipe Massa 29.16666667
Jenson Button 29.00641026

Maximum cost of a driver would be 50

So in that model would a driver coming in 11th place get 14 points or are you only scoring the top 10?

scoring every driver who finishes.

yes p14 would get 11 points.

the value is 50*(drivers score/max possible score)

That's probably what the fantasy site is using as a value rank of drivers as a DNF would mean little to no points for that race to be averaged out. It's a way that has obvious flaws, and it's pointless to credit someone past 10th place since there is no benefit one way or another how you finish past that point. The difference in a mean of scoring where 11th place gets 14 points while the winner gets 24 points does not make much sense.
