I don't watch female disciplines that much, but I always liked this girl. Watched her races from the beginning of her career. She is just awesome, grabbed 2 golds here, and a WR on relay! Amazing!

And yes, after all that you tend to glorify everything you did. Point proven.

Proven??

1966. England has been getting excited over that for 46 years! Evey time there is an international match on the commentators start banging on about 1966 and Bobby Moore.

Of course we're proud of the achievements of our sports people (and of achievements in other areas) But that doesn't negate what LRW said about Brits being very self critical. We generally have low expectations and are the first to call out our errors and mistakes. Just makes the successes all the sweeter.

I would actually say it's mainly the British press that go on about it. Can't remember the last time anyone of my friends said "hey, LRW, remember '66. F*cking great wasn't it.

No. Thats my point. Im totally indifferent to '66. It has no baring or relevance on today. And Im sure a big % of the British public feel the same (even the English). It just the press that go on about it, as they need something to put in the rags they sell.

But, regardless, it doesnt take away from the fact that *most* of the British public* think the Olympics have been an outright success. And for the British to be positive about something we have done / are doing (whilst it is happning) is very rare.

*statistics taken from 56 people surveyed.

My point is: are your friends (and by proxy you) that old to remember? :P

Your point assumes my friend base are all similar in age. You would be wrong

The people I know who ARE old enough to remember, dont go on about it. The people who are more my age and were born more than a decade after the event definitely don't mention it. Which backs up my point that its just the press who bring it up at every major football tournament.

It's not just the press. Everytime there's an England international match, the news usually interviews a few members of public - and what to they menation? 1966 and Bobby Moore!

I don't know what happened in 66 and haven't been bothered to google it.

You were pushing hard and pooped into your Pampers.
