You'd prefer him at Red Bull?

I don't see why not. Like I said, he has a lot of relevant experience.

:rofl::rofl: Go ask Dietrich how he feels about that.

You got his number?

no sorry. Not on intimate terms with that one.

So why tell me to go ask someone something and not provide the means for carrying out said task? Seems a bit redundant. That's all.

:banghead::banghead: I think you know what I meant, but I'll spell it out. You asked why McLaren/Lewis fans were not too happy about the thought of Sam Michael running Mcaren. I said go ask Deitrich...meaning I dont think Deitrich would want him near Red Bull because, though he has worked in other teams he has nothing that marks him out as a guy capable of running a cutting edge F1 team, probably the contrary. Being a team owner and business man Deitrich will probably be aware of this and would not want him to run the team. Thats what I meant

Being in the position of being on the outside looking in, it's difficult to comment on his competancy. However, his track record is ok.

Golly, this thread has accelerated in length in such a short amount of time... and I know what it will end up like as well.

Sam Michael has had next to no time to make his mark on the team yet, I would hold off criticism until we see how the team's fortunes play out over the next couple of years.

You're too late it's already ended up, locked, led to admonishments and resurrected... this place does indeed move fast.

Too bad you weren't here earlier. :D

Sam Michael has had 7 races with the team as sporting director, and we've seen a common trend this season whenever a McLaren car stops in the box waiting to be serviced. You want to give this guy 2 years? He works fast, just look at where Williams was before he left. :hehe:

Bingo! by the same token, would you not hold off a while before telling the world that he can be McLaren boss one day? These two are like dumb and dumber, if the guy recommending Sam has suspect judgement in what he says in public, why not assume he makes suspect decisions especially with hirings

Who would recomend a guy for the top job, your current job, after the guy has overseen 8 races with embarassingly humiliating screw ups, might be his fault, might not be but why not wait till the guy does something to bring good results to the team? Then there is the issue of public perception pointing at Sam failing at Williams, why not wait till this common opinion changes first before telling the world that a Williams reject is best placed to become Mclaeren boss

hy·po·thet·i·cal (h p -th t -k l) also hy·po·thet·ic (-th t k). adj. 1. Of, relating to, or based on a hypothesis: a hypothetical situation.

I actually agree with that logic

Well, rather than being technical director, like he was at Williams (in an era when BMW's support was waning & funds were in short supply), he is now the Sporting Director at McLaren. So now he focuses more on the organisational side of the team and calling strategic shots from the pitlane, and if Montreal is anything to go by, he's none too shabby. Yes, there have been mistakes, but is this really down to Michael? Wheel-guns and jacks, etc?
#311255
Well who is responsible then?
#311256
It doesn't have to be just one person. That's a bit short-sighted I think. Perhaps everybody in the team is $#@!ing up a tiny bit and it's adding up. Everything has to be working at top level in the entire team to be champions, not just one person making and breaking the whole thing
