Aaaaany way... How are the respective Olympic teams in your country going with the trials.

Would people who don't watch F1 know who most of the drivers are?

Aside from their country's drivers and the odd legend (Schumi, Senna etc), i don't think so tbh...

Sir Martin Whitmarsh? :P

He deserves it.

What for?

Damned if I know but he's famous. Those types eventually get one just for being alive. He'd deserve it as much as his drivers.

No he wouldnt. He's done didly squat. And he's hardly famous. Known by F1 people but thats it. The drivers on the otherhand will be known by people not interested in F1 because they're on TV adverts and advertising hordings. So if you subscribe to the theory that its famous people who get knighted then the drivers clearly have it over Whitmarsh.

The world doesn't care about anyone being knighted! Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire... It's a meaningless symbolic remnant of a title. Sir Elton John? Sir Richard Branson? Sir Wayne Newton?

No you're right its rubbish. It would just sink even lower if the likes of Whitmarsh got it.

I'm not so sure, popularity is normally rewarded sure, but that's sort of the point of national awards isn't it? People who have contributed to the nation, really popular people would have done so.

I wouldn't say Whitmarsh though, is particularly famous or popular, would people who don't watch F1 know who he is?

this is a fact .... In my country people know only Shumacher and Ferrari. :irked:

Goodness me, they're SERIOUSLY behind the times! :yellowyikes:

I wouldn't mind seeing Ron Dennis getting it. He is responsible for most of the success McLaren has had thus far, not to mention being the visionary of the MTC and McLaren road car operations.

Yes, if they're gonna dish them out Ron should get one. Compared to Ron, Whitmarsh isnt even in the race.

Not sure what the exact rule is of the Olympics and IAAF, but I think atleast 1 hurdle stays standing, you are still classified, but not 100% sure on that. Still, its a funny clip though. :hehe:

Much like I can only name a few very famous footballers.

The world doesn't care about anyone being knighted! Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire... It's a meaningless symbolic remnant of a title. Sir Elton John? Sir Richard Branson? Sir Wayne Newton?

Correct. As a country, we are quite retarded and slow to modernise. I guess one could get a few quid for their medal on E-bay. :hehe:

I wouldn't say he's done didly squat. He's done his job. Same as his drivers have done their jobs. Same as I do my job so where's my bloody award that I can sell on E-bay or use to become tabloid fodder by being a famous drunk and never work another day in my life. :irked:

There's a difference though, some jobs are harder or more competitive than others, so doing them is worthy of greater reward. To bring it back on topic, there's sometimes a debate about if medal winning Olympic competitors should get national honours.

Being paid millions is reward enough.

I saw yesterday that the Cameroon team arrived in the UK through Aberdeen airport. Must be doing cold weather training. :hehe:
