I have still yet to delve into the world of Apple...

I bought an Apple once, it was delicious!

Granny Smith?

She can be quite pricey and she often takes the mney and runs leaving you apple-less. The crafty old hag! :hehe:

Yes it does see it, when it is switched on it says iPod is locked unlock with passcode

I suspect because It's a security feature; it can not be disabled by resetting, that'd kinda defeat the object of the passcode, if stolen it can be simply be disabled by resetting with iTunes.

I would contact the seller on eBay and try to get the passcode, if they don't have it, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that you have stolen goods!

I am starting to agree with you mate.

The only thing I'd add is to try and put in the wrong pass code and see if the device wipes itself. Often they're set up to do that and you will get a warning that putting in the wrong code X more times will wipe the device.

I don't have the choice of putting the passcode in, it just says "iPod is Disabled, Connect to iTunes"

Itunes says "Cannot connect to iPod because it needs a passcode"

I can not restore of put it into DFU mode...

I think the technical term is bu66ered lol

If you can't put a pass-code in at all, then even if you get the correct one, what use is it?

I'm not familiar with Apple products or computer systems, but it does sound like its been stolen and then somehow locked by a defence mechanism.

If it was some thoughtless person (quite likely given its an Apple Ipod Touch :P ), they would simply have given you the pass-code.

Have you an apple store near you? I hear they're knowledgeable.

If you get no joy out of the seller on eBay, launch a dispute with eBay; at least you get your money back, assuming that you paid using PayPal!

I have had two iPods, one second gen and one fifth gen and both crapped out in a year, I've steered clear ever since. And I kinda don't understand why anyone would want an iPod Touch when your phone does all the same things, but that's just my [tarnished] opinion of Apple products!

Is it like a 4 digit pin number type thing? You can always go old school and just try all 10k number combinations! :P

I got it just to see what everyone goes on about with Apple. To be fair taking into account that it does not work. The Apple support system seems amateurish and not very helpful. I am sure if it was an android device there would be a plethora of places and ways to check things.

I will probably try another iPod touch if this on falls through before I make a final decision on it.

Maybe try:

This worked excellent for me,

Plug in your iPod

Go to "My Computer"

Open your iPod's drive (F for me)

Make sure you can see all hidden folders (If you aren't sure go to Tools, Folder Options, View Tab, and check Show)

Open the folder "iPod_Control"

Open the folder called "Device"

Rename the file "_locked" to "_unlocked"

Hope this helped

I dunno, i don't even have an ipod, just trying to be helpful by seeing what i can find on the net :P

I've had an iPod nano for the past 5 years, it's my gym horse, cruise horse, flight horse, still going strong! But I bought mine of a retail store, not ebay. :P
